Threaded ND Grad Filters?

Does anyone have any experience with threaded (and hopefully rotating) ND grad filters? I've used a filter holder and matte box combo before with good results, but am intrigued by the possibility of a lower-impact rig.

Re: Threaded ND Grad Filters?

Even though you can buy a threaded grad--it's a bad idea. Your grad line will be stuck dead center in the frame and that leaves you with sticking your horizon dead center--poor composition. If you want an inexpensive solution, buy a Cokin P-filter holder with a 72mm adapter and Formatt (Hitech) P-sized resin ND grads.

Ditto that. In my early days (this was before 4x6 filters were invented) I bought a tiffen threaded red grad, thinking of all of the cool sunset effects I could do. IDIOT! I used it once, with lousy results. You need to be able to move the grad line up or down to suit your shot.

Thanks for the excellent responses guys — clearly it's a good thing that I lost the ebay auction for a 72mm Hoya grad filter this morning (by $1!).
