Thread size on standard mic clip

Hello - first poster here...

So, in all of my years doing this audio stuff, I never took the time to find out what the thread gauge is on a standard mic stand/boom pole.

I'm in the process of building my own internally wired pole, but need the proper threaded stock for the shock mount.

I suppose I could go get a thread gage, but that would be too simple :)

BTW - this is a fantastic site. Lots of great info from everyone (ok...mostly everyone.)

3/8"? for a mic? All the ones I have look more like 1/2" or more (never measured) with a real fine thread.

There are two sizes in use, 5/8 and 3/8.
5/8 has been around for decades. Most new gear comes with 3/8, and some dealers don't supply stands etc with 5/8 anymore. You can get adaptors to go from one to the other.
Hope this helps.

just found this info on wikipedia:

Microphone stands:
- 5/8″ 27 turns per inch (tpi) Unified Special thread (UNS, USA and the rest of the world)
- 1/4″ BSW (not common in the USA, used in the rest of the world)
- 3/8″ BSW (not common in the USA, used in the rest of the world)
