Thoughts on used 3 Light kit purchase

Hey all, love the forum. I have an opportunity to purchase a used Lowel Pro Light kit at a decent price, but I'm concerned that 250W would not be enough for Keys. I think the kit would be a little more solid, than say a Britek kit with a couple 600W. However, I can't help but wonder if I'll be missing the extra light. The kit is also stocked and comes with hard case.

I am looking into getting a 7D or HMC150 (or waiting for the Sony AX200). I do photography freelance (Canon 40d) some events, weddings, concerts, live performance, etc. Some portrait work and headshots a plenty. Have a couple flashes with triggers for that stuff though, although I would look into using a hot light kit perhaps as fill or modeling lights.

I'm predominately a film/video student and am looking to get a camera to do some local video work, that's why I'm struggling with the camera decision. I do short films and have been used to checking out Lowel Omni 500's, Arri 3 bangers (3 600's) and Mole kits with 1k's. I know Lowel's are pretty sturdy, as all the lights we have are a few years old, but I'm not used to so little. I suppose I could double up on key situations or cross light.

If anyone has any insight or comments, it would be so appreciative. Thanks!

Is it going to meet your needs, Carl? If not, than that is your answer (unless of course you have cash to burn).

A 250watt tungston key is not going to do much of anything, unless its right on top of the subject. Might suffice for product shoots or accent lighting.

To put it into perspective: I use an open face 1k in a chimera and sometimes wish for a bit more punch.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I know what you mean, I have run into situations where I would have liked a lil more light as well, although mostly in the photo area. I shoot a lot outdoors, and when indoors usually in small to medium sized rooms. I'm thinking it would work well in this regard, possible on commercials, but I wouldn't have much for lighting large areas.

And money is rather tight, looking for the best deals possible. Since I am leaning toward selling my 40D and getting the 7D, and just saying nuts to live event video shooting (or maybe not??), I am thinking a good set of quick primes might work well with this kit, bumped up to 400 ISO, 640 max. Don't know though, going to get hands on with a 7D tomorrow. Thanks again.
