Thoughts on forum rules

Last year, a thread about drones got political. Every topic has some political content. That said, the site should not include electoral politics.
"We are forcing ourselves to live in some kind of artificial cocoon and then wonder why general public is not getting what we are saying." Why should the general public care?

By not analyzing why the general pubic cares about major issues (such as political and religion) and how quickly their perceptions of such stuff changes, we are doomed to some quasi-art obscurity. Politics and religion affects all of us as such if we were honest with our feelings and trains of thoughts we could theorize about why the mass of people think this way but goes another way. This knowledge is invaluable in a medium of film that - like it or not - is a mass medium.

The rules still would have to be struct - no personal attacks, keep it civil, use religion or politics only in concrete way while proving your point, etc...

+100 for the no politics religion. It still creeps in sometimes, but I like a place where I can hang out and check out information without feeling like I have to respond to correct or defend my side.

Doesn't work. It will never, ever stay that way, and it will bleed into other threads.

We tried it. It does not work.

I would like to see some room when discussion is about a film messaging.

This goes to the core of the thread 'Where are all the filmmakers' or something like that. The point being that this site is a tech site partially because that is all that is allowed to be discussed. You can't discuss most documentaries as they are often very routed in politics or religion. Could never discuss the content of Oscar winning Spotlight. Much of the history of film making is rooted in politics.

Just look at the Hateful 8 thread. When the issue of how Tarantino portrays violence as a filmmaker was brought up it was poo pooed immediately yet it is a valuable thing to discuss when talking about how we as filmmakers and visual artists choose to frame our contents message. As long as there is zero tolerance of politics being discussed this will always be a tech site which is fine but then don't wonder why their is no deeper filmmaking discussion.

You could not legitimately discuss violence in the hateful 8 without bringing up that Tarantino was calling cops murderers in a black lives matter event which earned him a boycott by the police unions and there you go it's politics. Better to leave it out entirely.

Well now, I don't know. I think it could work. I nominate Patryk to be the political and religion moderator. You might ask him is religious and political affiliations before you second the nomination.....

I'm just poking in the ribs Patryk. I'd really like to be able to have those types of discussions. A few decades ago, it was possible. People listened, were polite and considerate. Those days are long gone. These days people have no boundaries to their behavior, they just open up their bowels and let it all flow out.

Which means we should just keep quiet and keep on making our politically correct non-boundaries-pushing corporate videos... I mean even if a b-movie director like Taratino understands the necessity to offend from time to time and here we are afraid that the conversation will get less civil? What hope is there for this board to stay relevant beyond conversations about next piece of gear or such?

Uh? Good example of a non sequitur... You can discuss Tarantino and any of his films till doomsday and not bring up any statement about his politics, religion, or previous condition of servitude...

In fact, one could discuss any film from the now Sisters Wachowski, without dipping in to religion/politics...

I soon would come out as Art Nazi so maybe me as moderator is not such a good idea, but your second one is.
Unlike Facebook and such where people just talk AT each other, here we could talk in a very specific context. NOT politics for sake of politics of religion for sake of religion but how those two branches exist in context of human perception of the medium we engage in.
