Thoughts on Director's Headshot

I searched and didn't see anything like this and wanted to know, when i was accepted into a festival last year they requested a headshot of me. luckily i know a photographer, and he did one for me for free (you can see it on my avatar).

since he and i like to geek out about cool photography, i asked if he could do another one of me and try something fun or different or whatever.

what are the general thoughts on a director's (or any crew member's for that matter) headshot? should it reflect the current film in some whay? tone, lighting, setting? should it be smiling? or somber? any thoughts are appreciated.

imo, it should represent your personality... not that of the movie.
It seems if they wanted more personality of the movie. they'd ask for some stills from it.

i just send a hi-res version of this.... that's me hailing a cab in death valley...

i was just thinking how hitchcock (whom i am NOT) would do shots that reflect the film - "psycho" comes to mind. but i think a shot like yours, zack, is much more versatile than something shot on set or with props, etc.

and if i showed my personality, it'd be me facedown on a bar (haha). but i don't know that that'd be such a good idea as a headshot (or maybe it would). i think it's pretty funny. but, alas, i'm not making comedies.

LOL, that was awesome dude. I like the way you think. ;)

You're young huh Zac? lol

I have no professional headshots, and now I'm submitting to festivals, so I guess I'll just send them what I have. Whatever.
