this should burn?

Burning a FCP Quicktime file of 1 GB to iDVD, but it says i need double layer dvd to burn everything. Shouldn't this fit onto a single layer dvd-r? The film is 1 hour 40 min, is this the issue? The dvd capacity says 8GB...lots of free space in the hard drive.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong, to burn this file to single layer media in idvd?

Your feedback is so appreciated!

the quicktime file may be 1gb, but when it encodes to a DVD format which is what iDVD is doing, it becomes larger than what a single layer DVD can hold. Try turning the compression settings to best performance or something in iDVD.

you really should be compressing yourself in compressor and burning with DVD Studio Pro though.

Thank you. After switching the original encoder settings in Preferences, to Best Quality (from Best Performance, and Enable background recording unclicked), the dvd' now encoding to burn. This is only for timecode edit purposes, but I'll learn to use my DVD Studio Pro for the final authored version. Thanks again.
