This should be good...

How can you give honorable mention to the Canon XL H1 without acknowledging the looming existence of the HVX200? Looks like some "reviewer" is just sucking up with hopes for a free XL H1 to play with.

Is no one else bothered by the massive support behind HDV with the massive amount of drawbacks to the format especially concerning Audio and camera movement? Perhaps this merits its own thread, but... I dunno. Weirds me out.

The 2004 Sony FX1 ? The one without 24p?

And the award to Comical Camera Review Site of 2005 goes to........................

Yeah, that's a little puzzling -- how'd a 2004 model win the 2005 prize, especially when 2005 isn't over yet and there's still two models that have yet to hit the shelves (XLH1 and HVX)?

Best Camcorder Over $2,000:
Sony HDR-FX1

Where are the XLR inputs? Where is 24p. Im not a panny fan boy either, but as Barry said this is a 2004 camera in addition its still November?

I also read this comment from someone on that site and have also read similar statements elsewhere...... for someone like me its a big factor not just with this camera but the whole move to HD (at this stage anyway).

I don't think low/no budget "film"makers realize that shooting in HD could be very difficult. If makeup, lighting, and set/art design aren't top notch, you are going to be seeing things on the "print" you may not want. Hollywood award shows that are in HD have gotten complaints from guests (stars) that they want to be kept off camera becuase HD footage allows people to see skin/aging flaws MUCH more easily.

I'd better leave the HVX alone then. My sets are pretty wack.

Camcorderinfo is run by a college student. Not saying all college students can't write, only that the website looks like more of a part time enterprise.

They get a lot of the facts wrong and the products reviewed are mostly consumer level.

Yes I'm wondering with the HDV "issues" what Panny will do for a HD encore to the GS250 & GS400?

I'm working to develop a camera that will be both HD, and Pixelvision. It will have the sharpest, most color rich blocks you've ever seen. While the original Pixelvision footage looked akin to Mario Bros. The new PixelvisionHD will resemble Super Mario World!

I'm gonna be rich.

I'm not trying to bash camcorderinfo or anything, because a lot of their reviews are pretty fair. One thing to be said though is that they are extremely Cannon biased. There is a shoot out award comparing the XL1s to the DVX100 and they completely pick the Cannon. I think a lot of it has to do with sponsorship or the settings they are using. In general I have found that their consumer reviews are pretty accurate, but once you move past the whole consumer level they are complete crap and don't know what they are talking about.

They recommend HD but they don't talk about what it takes to edit HD. Why? Because their targe market is going to play back a soccer game right off tape.

They have an interesting community there, but if you look at the Panasonic thread one of the myths running rampant is that you only need a camera with 24p if you are doing a film out. They never talk about the look that it gives you.

This is like me telling Pookie that my if I duct tape a camera to my body I will get steadier shots than him using a steadicam... oooh, I want a steadicam.

See you've got it all wrong- first you build that $14 steadicam, and then you duct tape that to your forehead, and then you'll get steadier shots then him using a steadicam.

Oh, yeah, it would be great to have a real steadicam ...

We need to stop saying steadicam... especially since b & h is now offering that billmelater thing, it's like setting the crack pipe right down in front of me and saying: its all yours....

Ohhh, the gearlust... Ohhh the humanity!

If you know that they are bumbling idiots why would not try and bash them. Someone who regularly gets only half the story right shouldn't be considered "pretty fair".

cuz it doesn't do any good. You'll just get wraped up in a debate over that clunking sound!
