wanted - FCP video editor - ASAP

I need a FCP video editor with own system ASAP to fix a Type-O in a promo. Must be able to capture and burn a DVD. I'm here in Las Vegas for a convention.

I dont know - I have 1 client who shall remain nameless who routinely calls me from conventions needing changes because some speaker changed or something or they want to add some money falling from the sky (true story) for an event later that evening. It costs the client alot and everyone is happy :)

It actually sounds like it could be legit. I wouldn't be surprised. If you contact him let us know where it goes. I'm kinda curious.

Also let us know if when you call they say "You've just been punk'd!" and Ashton Kutcher jumps out of your closet.

I don't have FCP so I won't be contacting him. A. How could you fix a typo with just a copy of a DVD? You would need the project file to do that. So you would be covering something up. Which would look real sloppy(plus why is FCP a requirement?). The quality would severely degrade because you are going from already compressed mpg-2 to avi, then back to mpg-2(unless FCP can edit vob files natively). B You don't capture a dvd. I guess if he knew this though he wouldn't be asking for help.

This reminds me of a thread I read on CC about funny client experiences. Guy said he was editing a clip where a dog is walking away from the camera, client ask "can you make the dog come back now" editor says "I'll try" and starts whistling and clapping "come here boy, come here"

I used to make a lot of money compositing new logo designs over old ones,
changing dates and updating addresses in commercials and corporate videos.

Tons of clients that needed to get more use out of their branded/dated, past
productions :)

There's not alot I wont do in an NLE if the price is right :) And who said it was from just a DVD? He needs a DVD burned but it sounds like maybe he has the project files, just no NLE or editor. I would hazard a guess that 40% of my work is hacking up other people stuff (with rights to do so), but stuff gets handed down from the big agencies and then it needs be turned yesterday, so my phone rings and it gets taken care of for a modest fee.

Why else would you need to "capture" a DVD? I'm sure he doesn't have the project file, who carries around project files for NLE's they don't have? LOL but that would be ideal. I've agreed to do a couple jobs off DVD's and that process alone is a nightmare.

oh I missed the capture part. my mistake. yeah typos on DVD's wouldnt be the easiest to fix as has been pointed out but definitely not impossible and far from difficult most likely. And who has a hard drive with the entire project when they go to a convention - one of my clients :) Their internal departments use the CS3 suite and so do we so it we just have a couple of hard drives they get when a project is out of our hands (duplicates, just in case).

(plus why is FCP a requirement?).

Because somebody probably put a bug in the conventioneer dude's mind that he "has to" use FCP.

"Yeah, we need to re-purpose the existing DVD by correcting the typo" or some such corporate speak.
