This may serve you well...

Hi all!

I wanted to share with you my 'investigations'.
First of all, I think that in most cases a photo shop is cheaper than a video/cine shop. So if you're lookin for lights, for example, you may find continuous lighting kits for a good price. At least is what I think.

The other day I was going to buy a kit made of 3 open halogen lights (the orange ones, you know) 1000W, with their stands which cost about 1200 Euros. But I saw other lights that surprised me quite a lot. They were the Quatrz Imager 750W. I have a spanish link to see a pic

As yoy can see it's made of 3 250W lamps, with a dimmer. You can also choose betwen 1, 2 o 3 of the lamps to be on. I thought it was very useful and very good priced, just 146 Euros/$ no VAT included. So I decided to buy a kit and also burn doors, gels and an umbrella for reflecting and even difusing. I know it's not too much light but I think it's worth buying it. What do you think? Give me your opinions please.

That light may be ok, but you need to make sure it doesn't have a fan. Very often, lights designed for still photography will include a noisy cooling fan that makes them unsuitable for video use. You should also check on the construction of the light. Some cheap lights are poorly made and look like electrical hazards waiting to happen.

Personally, I would recommend a high quality used 650W fresnel from Mole, Arri, Altman, or Desisti for a light that will be better built and more controllable.

Yeah, I know. Of course these doesn't have a fan, it has a great spendthrift. Don't you think it's very useful to know that you can choose between 1, 2 or 3 lamps to be on?
I saw another cheap one just with one lamp of 1200W but this one had fan :-( Anyway, the major part of my work is videoclips so this won't be a problem ;-)

Of course Fresnels are a very good choice but it's not easy to find second handed ones good priced around here...

Thanks for your opinion!
