This lights from CE3K

I would like to know how to reproduce this effect, but only with one light beam. I dont want to do it by CG, but it could be possible to accentuate it in post. Shooting with Canon 5D2 or 7D.

Could it be done with a 2K HMI and a smoke machine? And in order to make the cone aspect, do I need a kind of mask close to the light or some kind of lens projector?

My guess is given the time that was shot in, it was probably two or three large carbon arc spots. There were no HMIs at that time. A 2K HMI probably wouldn't do it but you can always try. I'm afraid to really get that kind of effect you'd need a fairly large xenon spot or maybe a large HMI par. Haze or smoke is absolutely indispensable to sell that effect and it wouldn't work without it.
