This light support bar

The other day in a shooting I discovered this kind of bar (aluminium tube) extending or telescopic. It is used to hang lights in a shooting and works like the shower courtain bar, by pressure.

Does anybody know the name of this thing and plans of how to build it?

Thank you.

Can't really tell from the pic, but it could be a genuine AutoPole or Polekat. Those are $75 and up each depending on brand, color, length, etc. That Harbor Freight thing actually looks promising, though...

Matthews generally refers to these as Wall Spreaders. There are now a whole plethora of these kinds of devices from different manufacturers and industries. Many of them work just as good and are a lot cheaper.

It is about time Harbor Freight started carrying those, before they only had the 5' or 6' ones. Thanks for the link.

Don't the Wall Spreaders use wooden planks? Like 4x4 planks cut to fit and then tightened between the two parts? I'm pretty sure the thing in the picture is not a wall spreader but an autopole.

Just picked up one of the Harbor Freight ones today. Will try and play around with it and take some pics when I have a chance. They had them in store, for 9.99.
