This is one of the most remarkably insane polls I have ever seen.

First and foremost...Who's missing (and one of their great films)

No Fellini - "8 1/2". No, it's not a porn flick.

No Godard - "Breathless"

No Ozu - "Tokyo Story"

No Bunuel - "The Exterminating Angel"

No Renoir -"The Rules of the Game"

No Bresson - "Pickpocket"

No Antonioni - "Avventura, L'"

No Herzog - "Stroszek"

No Chabrol - "Boucher, Le"

No Eisenstein - "The Battleship Potemkin"

No Fassbinder - "The Marriage of Maria Braun"

No Mizoguchi - "UGETSU"

No Kieslowski - "Three Colors Trilogy"

No Wenders - "Wings of Desire"

No Melville - "Samouraï, Le"

No Forman - "Fireman's Ball"

No Rossellini - "Open City"

No Tati - "Playtime"

No Pasolini - "The Gospel According to St. Matthew"

No Ray - "The Music Room"

No Wai - "Fallen Angels"

No Rohmer - "Pauline at the Beach"

No Nichols - "The Graduate"

No Tarkovsky - "Solaris"

No Keaton - "The General"

No Ford - "My Darling Clementine"

& that's just to name a few...my fingers hurt...

...but not bad enough to sh!t on a few people first...

In the film world, that is Treason, my friends. If your wondering who the hell those peolpe are, get to watchin' dem movin pictures more often. Now lets look at who dId make the list.

My "WTF? Him!!!"

This is not to say that these aren't great directors, but their place in the top 40 of all time is laughable. Lets start from the bottom up...

Gilliam - Great films, but not top 40 material...maybe could end up in the high 90's in a top 100 list. Besides, just look at 'im. Ugly a$$hole.

M. Night - Self-explanatory.

Raimi - Spiderman sucks ass. Period. On another note, Bruce Campbell does not suck ass. He in fact kicks ass. But, as pointed out earlier, Spiderman does not. This is not to say the Raimi sucks ass, but it in fact it is implied. Seeing how some may be confused, I will elaborate to the fullest extent of my abilities: Raimi sucks ass and Evil Dead is over rated. Groovy!

Howard - I don't care how many awesome films this guy comes out with. Opie ain't gettin' a top 40 list. I won't let him. PS. Richie Cunningham got it on with Potsy while Ralph Malph watched. You know it to be true in your heart of hearts. The Grinch is a green glob of sh!t that was flung onto the big screen. Seuss is turning in his grave, his masterpice he could not save. Hear that SPLASH? Well, thats Ron's career going down the toilet, cuz The Da Vinci Code's gonna blow (in more ways than one).

Minghella - I had to look his name up to find out who he was. This has got to be a f@#$# joke. I hope he dies a slow and painful death, much like what I went through while watching The English Patient. Die, Mr. Minghella. Soon.

Scott - Tony, that is. What can I say? He's alright, if you like that sort of thing (ie sodomy with a touch of incest), but nowhere even close to the top 40. A top 250 list...maybe. On second thought, NAH! Maybe Ridley could teach him a thing or two, such as "Don't make a sequel to a great film and replace the lead with a no good tramp and completely f@#$ up potentially cool Mamet screenplay for the sake of sweet moola." In fact...

Ridley - Take that you son of a *****.

Zemeckis - Gump beat out Fiction. That alone is a mark against this bastid. And whats up with Clarice's dad tunring out to be a mother f@$# alien. STUPID. Thanks to his producing skills though, he than makes up for it. Lets take a look: House of Wax, Gothika, Ghost Ship, Thir13en Ghosts, Ritual, House on Haunted Hill, Bordello of Blood, The Frighteners, and Demon Knight. I hope this dude rots in hell along with his horror films and a herpes infested Paris Hilton.

Cameron - Poorman's Spielberg. Or in this case, retarded man's. No biggie. His career went down with the Titanic. Dark Angel was balls, too. And Linda Hamilton's a dog. Celen Dion...nevermind. Lets stick to the topic athand: James Cameron's suckery. I hate you. Yeah, YOU!

Coen Brothers - Top 50 material, for sure. Unfortunately, just a few blemishes spoiled it for them. The Lady Killers, Intolerable Cruelty, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Hudsucker Proxy, Raising Arizona. Wait a minute, half of their filmography is sh!t! Oh well, they can keep Gilliam company in the 90's. Joel and Ethan should make like siamese twins and split, and then one of them dies due to complications, and then the other out of sadness.

Tarantino - Gotta do a HELL of alot more to make number 8, buddy, not to mention the top 40. I might be easier on him if he wasn't such a prick. I hope that the demons from Zemeckis' films pick at QT's bones as he's burning in the CITY OF FIRE, and then the demon's put pieces if his flesh together with other people's flesh and make a whole new person, and then Satan partakes in anal rape ala Deliverance, which had nothing to with Pulp Fiction, nor any other unknown Asian film that is ripe for the picking you egotistical megalomaniac mother f@#$@#. Your gonna burn for this, baby. The audience is eatin' it up, but soon, oh so soon, they'll be eating you up.

Jackson - Peter Jackson. Sigh. It's not even worth it. **insert insult here**

and, for the sole purpose of getting Hudson angry...

Steven Spielberg - HAH! Post ten thousand times, will ya? Maybe you'll think twice next...ten thousand times.

Not working? Zombies suck!

Okay, glad I got that out of my system. Lastly, lets just take a look at the order of thins here. This is where it's really f@$# up.

According to the Poll:

Peter Jackson > Orson Welles

The End. That alone makes the case.

Oh, and Spielberg deserves to be in the top 10, but number 1? I won't contend it too much because...well, I'm afraid. Hudson is pulling a Cape Fear on me. Every where I go, I see him in the distance, watching me, undressing me with his eyes. Last week he barged in during my Chem Lab and started sticking his thumb in my mouth. I have a strange suspicion that this is going to end in tears.

Hudson quotes:

"I am going to stick my HOOK up your TERMINAL."
"Open your JAWS and I'll introduce you to THE COLOR PURPLE."
"Your mine *****!"

Any one else getting messages like this, or is it just me?

Now, you may be wondering:

"It's just a poll, Troop. Besides, people have their own tastes and have the right to express their own opinions."

Go to hell. My opinions are right and yours are wrong. If you don't agree with me, then you have no taste. Don't be stupid.

"What's up with the gay references, dude?"

Uh...RACIST!

"Why are you so angry?"

I got something in my eye. It hurts and it won't come out. Is there a hotline or something for this?

That's it for now. If any one actually reads this, remember:

"Ha ha ha! Oh gosh that's funny! That's really funny! Do you write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. You are the weakest link goodbye. You know, I've, I've never heard anyone make that joke before. Hmm. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference, reference that outside the program before. Because that's what she says on the show right? Isn't it? You are the weakest link goodbye. And, and yet you've taken that and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. God what a clever, smart girl you must be, to come up with a joke like that all by yourself. That's so fresh too. Any, any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me too as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. God you're so funny!"

*Over&Out*

Can you explain the list that's up top with all of the no's by each name?

lol

I've seen 8 1/2, breathless, exterminating angel, and the graduate...

the first three were unbearable to watch for me... I had to write a paper on each for different film classes that I've had in the past. There's lots of meaning behind those movies though...

What the hell is M. Night Shyamalan doing on that list? And Tony Scott? Most of that list is silly, except for Spielberg. :)

I'm surprised they remembered Lean, Truffait and Bergman... but who cares, when the list also has Lucas in it?

LOL Trooper. Those Quotes are great. It would be hard pressed for you and I to have a beer and talk shop. Your FAV's are interesting. Half of your list I am wondering who the **** it is (enough with Wim Wenders being great already. Jesus.). Treason so be it.

My take on the Empire List:

THE TOP 40

1 Steven Spielberg - Yes. Yes. Yes. A true inspiration and dreammaker. Everyone knows Spielberg is god. The king of Popular filmmaking and damn effective when getting all serious on us.

2 Alfred Hitchcock - Totally belongs on the list.

3 Martin Scorsese - I cannot beleive to this day he has been shunned by the Corporation.

4 Stanley Kubrick - **** Kubrick.

5 Sir Ridley Scott - He has really come into his own as of late and I am at the point where I expect R Scott to deliever the goods when I hear his name. Making the all-time 40? I wouldn't put him there just yet.

6 Akira Kurosawa - I'm buying this.

7 Peter Jackson - As much as I love Lord of the Rings I think he has a ways to go to make it onto my top 40 list. 3 RING films does not make the list for me and even if KONG does rule it will take another 10 years for me to let him on.

8 Quentin Tarantino - Yes. Yes. Yes. A Tarantino film is an event. How many filmmakers can claim this? None. Nope. Not even Steven.

9 Orson Welles - Not for me. Might be way ahead of my time; but Citizen Kane does not make the list for me and that's all he really ever did that is worth a shite isn't it?

10 Woody Allen - No. Appreciate his 'Indieness' but how many times can the same story be told in the same city with the same character?

11 Clint Eastwood - Yes. This man has impressed the hell out of me ever since A Perfect World and Bridges. Clint rocks.

12 Sir David Lean - Yes. It's not just Lawrence of Arabia. It's Bridge Over the River Kwai and Doctor Zhivago that do it for me.

13 The Coen Brothers - Yes. Indie. Cool. Almost an Event.

14 James Cameron - Not anymore. Terminator, Aliens, Titanic. Great stuff. But as they say "You're only as good as your last." and James ain't been anywhere since 1997.

15 Francis Ford Coppola - Hell yes. Need I even mention why?

16 Oliver Stone - Yes.

17 Sergio Leone - Yes.

18 John Ford - Yes.

19 Billy Wilder - I don't know. I want to say yes, but just cannot.

20 Sam Peckinpah - Yes.

21 Howard Hawks - I can dig it.

22 Robert Zemeckis - No way. Has made some nice films but TOP 40? EVER?

23 Michael Mann - No. Love his work. But hasn't done enough for me.

24 David Lynch - **** off. I'd rather go to the dentist.

25 Spike Lee - No way. Let's be serious.

26 François Truffaut - I see it.

27 Brian De Palma - I agree. I love DePalma. This is my irrational choice.

28 Tony Scott - No. Long way to go to get to Ridley level and even Ridley has a way to go still.

29 Fritz Lang - Are you even kidding me? What?

30 Tim Burton - No. He's too weird and inconsistent. A streaky filmmaker and not enough steadfast for me.

31 George Lucas - Not anymore.

32 Anthony Minghella - I am liking what this guy is doing but it's still too early for me.

33 Ron Howard - He will be. A Beautiful Mind? The coming Cinderella Man looks like a true winner. The rest of his films are a little light for the best ever list but good films no doubt. Why you be hatin Opie? He'll be on this list one day.

34 Sam Raimi - **** no.

35 Charlie Chaplin - I don't care what he gave to Hollywood; it's behind me.

36 Ingmar Bergman - I can see it.

37 M Night Shyamalan - Not yet but will be.

38 Peter Weir - Yes. I love his work.

39 Terry Gilliam - No. No. No. Screw that Time Bandit crap and 12 Monkeys whatever its called.40 Robert Altman - Never got Altman. Not for me.

Dude? You're dissing Fritz Lang????? Have you seen M? If not, stop whatever the **** it is you're doing, and order Criterion's version of this DVD. Montage at its best. The cinematography is fantastic by todays standards and this was done in 1939. Groundbreaking stuff....

Nah, I'm just wondering about this:

Were you not listening?

What, no Renny Harlin?

I can't stay awake long enough to judge an Eastwood as director film. Well at least not since Josey Wales.

Billy Wilder rocks. He did Some Like It Hot and Double Indemnity. Each of those films is among the best of it's genre. Guys like him and Hawks are not really around anymore. They could do just about any type of picture well, and still leave their personal mark on it. Who today can do a great screwball comedy, a great crime drama and a great romance? Does anyone even try? They should both be higher on the list.

Any list of great directors that has Tim Burton, Anthony Minghella and Tony Scott, but no Frank Capra should be ****ing burned. And what about WS Van Dyke. Man, talk about great witty banter and stories that move.

The people who came up with this list haven't a clue.

i feel like I just wasted a valuable part of my life reading that post.... time that I will never get back..

time to go watch a peter jackson film...

What's wrong with Spike Lee? Has he somehow *Sold Out* and I'm not aware of it? His films are great and most always have a meaning and purpose. No one liked *25th Hour*? Or *Do the Right Thing*?

Bunch of weirdo's!!

Super Trooper - There is a world out there that is not made up of 1's and 0's. Just press the *Power* button, and walk outside. You'll see!!

Hudson - Man....you really let me down with this one. "**** Kubrick"?? Awe man, that hurts John!! At least we agree on Tarantino!! :(

Wasted time? I speant 2 1/2 hours writing that ****. Now THAT is a colossul waste.

Plus, why waste more watching a PJ film? Unless, it's Bad Taste. Now that was pretty god damn original.
