This is kind of blowing my mind.

Weird... every time I thought "Hey I'll go that way!" but then I say "No I won't, I'll throw him off by going the other way!" he takes away the square I wanted to go to the first time...

freaky...

It is simple math. Tedious, but simple. The trick is not allowing you to go diagonally. It incrementally limits your choices, depending on whether or not he is giving you odd or even numbers.

Still fun though.

I showed this to a web programmer across the hall, he says it's about numbers and probability. But is it beatable? I watched it again, knowing what the final square was, but still ended up getting on a square that wasn't removed.

Yes, it's math but it still feels freaky because the underlying mechanism seems just outside the range of average human comprehension. Makes you really question the whole notion of free will.

It is weird in that way.

But remember that he is not predicting where you will be at every move. He is only predicting where you won't be. Based on where you would have to be by moving only one square on the first move, he would know what squares you could be in based on the numbers he gives you for the next one. There is always one square that you would not be able to get to no matter how you move, based on the next number. That's the one he removes.

Don't get me wrong, it's very cool. But it is a prediction of certainty.
