This is gonna happen here, just you wait and see!

Rosestar.

Why.

Are the MODS such assholes here? Do you realize what happens when the free for all forum starts? Trust me; we did it in the beginning and it was out of control.

Everyone yells Freedom of Speech and blah blah but it turns into a **** forum. People hating each other for their political views; topics spilling into other threads.

No one likes a Cop until they need one ya know?

Now wtf is the point of this thread I ask?

Hey Ricky, tell your lame-o friend to get off my lawn!

Look, there's only one reason why we don't allow political posts and that's because when we allowed them, it very nearly tore the whole forum apart. This happened before you joined, so believe me when I tell you that the "no politics" rule has really helped. People were at each others throats and we were about to lose many of the members that heavily contribute to the forums, because they were just fed up. This is not a political discussion board, there are other sites that cater to that. We all have our views and many of us are passionate about them, but this board is for the friendly and professional discussion of filmmaking.

If we allowed Politcs to infiltrate this board I'd ban everyones ass in a week; except BrianAWells of course.

And then we'd be the only ones left. And we'd have all these DVXFest prizes that we wouldn't...hey wait a second!

XCheck posted with all scencerity, IMO. He was not inflammatory at all, and posted a very peritient document. I can understand, no Democrate v, Republican BS. However, XCheck, did not show us a political point of view, he showed us a gross inhumanity, something everyone here, especially, should have a point of view about. At the very least we should have the opportunity to comment and offer support to XCheck.

I mean, we can make a sticky out of PK's effort to get students helmets in Thailand, which is a very noble effort. Yet, XCheck, sharing his thoughts about the conditions in his homeland is locked right away. I do not think that that was fair.

David let the post remain, so others could view it, but it was closed to discussion to prevent it from degenerating into the typical donkey vs. elephant thread. Anyone is absolutely free to message XCheck with their thoughts. P.K. and the helmet project was apolitical, but XCheck will be the first to admit he's a political animal. I don't see the connection. You just gotta trust us on this one. :)

LMAO Pookie! I like that hat man.

Rosestar; I understand your take on this matter. Where do we draw that line? Is it ZERO or 10 % ?

Interestingly enough, this is where my past caught up with me (as usual). Yes, I am a political animal, and no, that post was not meant politically at all (barring the shot at the PM's recent visit to China, but we all know what's going on there, don't we?)

It will probably have political repercussions back home, but I really just wanted to report on it (other than Reuters, I only found one 'mainstream' media reportin on it - canoe.ca).

I can see that a post like that can degrade into a political discussion, yet at the same time, it's the exact attitude of 'preventing the harm' that led to the events of last weekend. The question is, as always (and as someone pointed it out) of tolerance, and where it reaches its limit. For Czech police, it's traditionally 'better sooner than later'.

Anyway. I don't want to bother anyone with my personal stuff, but to give it a little context: I was fairly apolitical until the day when I got caught in a demonstration simply by the virtue of working at a building in the square where it took place. It was on January 19, 1989, and I will never forget that day. What I saw there was the stimulus for me to leave the country - and who didn't live an illegal emigration from behind the iron curtain will never understand what that entailed.

You can talk to a policeman; but you can't talk to a dog trained to kill, nor a water cannon. The images and stories from the Techno party just hit a little too close to home for me...

I am really not in the mood to discuss it any more. It's too exhausting.

Peace!!!

J.

Barry, I understand that situation, it's just that political disscussions are allowed to continue here, even when the thread starts apolitical:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=30837

I just felt that on this one that the disscussion would not have become divissive and that the lock down was premature.

I feel for you XCheck and understand about beind exhaustive about talking about it.

I came to this forum to talk about filmmaking. Now, even though I have enjoyed the cafe from time to time I don't think this is a place where "anything" should be permitted. I love the idea that this is a place designed to allow filmmakers to share their feelings freely, but it needs to stay a safe place. Look at all those that have been banned in the past. The reason boils down to the same thing, someone trying to make this forum a "dangerous" and "unpleasant" place to be. If the moderators (from past experience) felt this place was almost torn apart from these kinds of topics and those kinds of attitudes then we need to trust them. The point is, there are others willing to hear your deepest and darkest, it's up to the guys that run the place to decide if it's here. I don't know about you all, but when I first came in I saw a sign that said, "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." If that's too harsh for some of us, I guess we could create our own "sanctuary" somewhere else, maybe... and by us I mean you, 'cause I like it here... and I like McDonald's breakfast, good stuff.
