I was wondering if any of you have seen teh movie Thirteen if is any good. I watched the trailer and I was also wondering if the movie was shot in film or with DV and if DV what camera?

Re: Thirteen

Shot on film (super 16mm)....good movie....and I couldn't believe it was co-writen by a teenager. The film has that edgie (sp) alternative look to it. Most definately could have been shot with the dvx and look just as good. Check it out you'll enjoy it.

Re: Thirteen

Personally, I hated it!

I thought it was SO the typical angsty/teenagers get so messed up movie!

They tried throwing around emotions where, in fact, I didn't feel any during the film whatsoever...unless sea-sickness counts, as the annoying non-stop hand-held sequences never seemed to end. I dunno, it just came across as very pretentious, and I didn't enjoy myself at all.

And people have told me *that was the point*. Well, then the movie should never have been made in the first place :P

I hated it! Just thought an alternative view might be wanted...

Re: Thirteen

I thought it was pretty good. Not the most original story, however I thought the acting was top notch, esp. by Holly Hunter. I liked the camera work, although at times it was slightly distracting. Overall i'd give it an 8/10. worth the rental. Just my 2c's  :P

Re: Thirteen

I'm in total agreement with you, Mike. "Thirteen" was a cliche story, told in the most facile, unimaginative manner possible (e.g., the director's use of extreme handheld camera to mirror the girls' increasingly out-of-control behavior... haven't seen that before :-/).

Re: Thirteen

I liked it. However if I recall I was giving girls the shify "hmmm, what kind of craziness do -you- have up there in your head" eye. Yea, it kinda freaked me out. But I'm better now. :)

Re: Thirteen

I have some strong opinions about this movie. I am 16 and this is one film that instigated my various movie ideas to coalesce. Not because I liked 13. But because it made me pissed off. Not only was teh camera work needlessly nauseating, please, jello can hold a camera steadier than that even without a tripod. AND THE ZOOMING! GOD! the acting was decent tho.
Wat hit me was that this was just another angsty, woe-is-me, self-pitying, im gonna cut myself and get wasted PIECE OF CRAP. I wanted to strangle everyone in that movie.(except perhaps the brother and the surfer guy who was smart enuff to get the girls off of him).
This makes my generation look like idiots that can't deal with their lives in the smallest sense. Life is **** for everyone. DEAL WITH IT for god's sakes. This film just glorifies the sad life of a teenage girl's shallow concieted depressive journey into suckiness.
Im sry but his movie genuinely made me want to grab an angsty teenager(preferably a goth, haha) and beat some sense into them. ANd remember I AM a teenager. Anyway, i hope my movie makes its point against such behavior.
My movie-
So Says Hayden:
"THIS IS YOUR LIFE. DEAL WITH IT."

Re: Thirteen

I saw it. It’s another “let’s do everything we can to make our own lives more miserable” motif presented as some deep exploration of the human spirit.

My interest in the movie was this -- when my actual sister was 13, she was worse than this little peurile brat (though without the hardware). I’ve lived through the consequences that kind of behavior has on the people around she who behaves that way, and I can tell you – there’s not a thing noble, heroic, uplifting, or profound about it. It’s intensely selfish, narcissistic, dangerous, and destructive to everyone and everything that’s affected by it. To present it as some kind of exercise in individuality or free-spiritedness is irresponsible and juvenile.

On the plus side, my sister is now 23 and is absolutely mortified and humiliated by how she used to act.
