Thinking of getting a keyboard to make sound FX Any sugestions?

I'd like to get a keyboard to record and manipulate sounds for films. I don't know a thing about keyboards or what I would need to record the sounds, manipulate them, and get them into the computer so I can put it into the project. If you have any advice, I'd appreciate it. Not a lot of cash to buy the keyboard. Thanks

You could buy a bank of SFX for your computer, you may not need a keyboard at all. Or if you really wanted one, you could get a MIDI keyboard which are really cheap and use that to trigger the SFX on your computer.

What do you exactly have in mind?

A midi keyboard doesn't need to be expensive, but do get one that has touch or velocity sensitive keys. This can save you a bucket of time.

As others have suggested, a touch sensitive midi (or usb) keyboard used in conjunction with your DAW opens alot of possibilities.

I use both the M-Audio Oxygen 49 and the Keystation 88es. The keystation is used for composing and Oxygen is used to trigger soundscapes and sfx.

My DAW is Sonar Producer 8 (although now that Pro Tools 9 has untethered itself from dedicated hardware I'll likely be converted in 1st quarter of next year). For soundscapes I primarily used Spectrosonics Atmosphere. For loading and managing sfx samples I use SampleTank. SampleTank allows you to load sounds (of your choosing) and then use the keyboard to trigger those sounds. It's fairly straightforward to set up various libraries (footsteps for instance) and then quickly load and trigger those with velocity variations which mimmick the variations in natural sounds.
