Things to do in LA

Eat a "The Brite Spot" around 4am on a Saturday. Check out the amazing variety of people in the restaurant. I used to write there.

You shut your filthy mouth!! Don't make me say something stupid like.. like.. you shut your filthy mouth.. or something stupid like that!!

Seriously, though, In-N-Out is tasty.

BEST "REAL" STUDIO TOUR IN L.A.:

Warner Bros. VIP Studio Tour

WB VIP Studio Tour

Best, non-fake, not-too-well-known studio tour in L.A. You go on large golf carts (not the mega-trams like on Universal) and they walk you though actual shooting stages like "ER" and stuff. Never been on it, but I see people on it all the time when I'm at that lot. It's the only real studio lot a normal person can walk onto without a "drive-on." Reserve your tickets in advance to be sure you can get in on the day you want. All the other studio lots have security up the ass!!! Paramount, Sony, Universal, etc.--without a "drive-on" or "walk-on" you're never gonna get NEAR their stages!

BEST VIEW-OF-DOWNTOWN L.A. BAR:

The Standard, Downtown L.A. Rooftop Bar

The Standard

I haven't checked lately, but I think Thur-Sun there is a $20 cover. Sun-Tue there's usually no cover, but you need a wrist band (free). If you look cool enough, they'll give you one (they give one to just about anyone who doesn't look like a gang member, if they're no too busy). Come early and there's no cover, no hassle. Call hotel to confirm everything I just said. The view is IMPRESSIVE. This is one of the best places in L.A. to impress a date. Drinks are EXPENSIVE.

SKYBAR:

SKYBAR

Famous, used-to-be-ultra-hip-still-sorta-is-but-kinda-not bar located in the Mondrian hotel on Sunset. Walk into the lobby like you own the place (DO NOT TRY TO ENTER WHERE IT SAYS "SKYBAR" ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOTEL ON THE FAR RIGHT), veer to the right, then go through the double glass doors just to the right of the restaurant glass door. Again, walk in like you belong and go before the doorman gets on duty (9:00PM?). If you eat in the restaurant, you are welcome to go to the Skybar as long as there isn't a private party going on. Nothing too special, except that you can tell your friends that you "got into Skybar."

HOTDOGS JUST AS GOOD AS "PINK'S" WITHOUT THE WAIT:

Carney's on Sunset

CARNEY'S

Plenty of free parking right in the heart of the Sunset Strip (where there's NO free parking and pay lots run as high as $20 on weekends), and great hotdogs!

BEST OUTDOOR MALLS WITH THE MOST HOT CHICKS:

Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica--walk the pier, look at the shops, check out the girls! Great destination for just "hanging out."
Century City Shopping Center in Century City (Los Angeles)
Hollywood and Highland is really, really lame, but you may want to check it out for about 5 seconds since it's right next to Graumann's Chinese Theater (which is VERY touristy, but it's still cool to see if you've never seen it). But nobody really shops there since they lost there anchor store before they even built it. Not even that many girls here--just filled with cheap tourists. The Beverly Center has a LOT of VERY hot chicks, but it's a huge, INDOOR mall that's ugly, doesn't have enough bathrooms, is ultra-hard to park in, and just plain boring (unless you're a girl).

BEST HOT CHICK STREET IN LOS ANGELES:

Robertson Blvd. between Melrose and Burton Way. This is where Lindsey Lohan crashed her car, Paris Hilton gets mobbed by TV crews, and where Nicole Richie doesn't eat anything. Go to "Kitson" for some good eye candy (down the street from the oft-starstudded restaurant, "The Ivy"). You'll also be able to see paparazzi just "hanging around" all over this two-block slice of L.A. Since you won't want to buy anything at Kitson (expensive girly stuff), you can have a nice, inexpensive organic lunch at the Newsroom's sidewalk cafe up the street (Madonna eats there). Good place to hang and watch the scenery walk by. Plus, they have a newsstand inside.

A COUPLE "COOL" RESTAURANTS:

Nearby, "Ago" is a nice Italian restaurant (on Melrose just east of La Cienega) if you want to dine with the stars (Sharon Stone was there when I went there one Tuesday night to have dinner with my friends). A little pricey, but not too expensive (as long as you don't order a steak)--pasta entrees start at about $15. Again, L.A. hotspots aren't much trouble to get into, and you can often get seated right away, as long as you're not trying to go on the weekends during peak hours. "Koi" is another hotspot (sushi) with a lot of star clientele . . . but I HATE that place and it's VERY expensive. Also expensive, but more fun and more laid-back (not as asshole-ish as "Koi"), is "Blowfish." It's at the very western tip of the Sunset Strip. Owned by Julian Lennon, it's beautifully designed, and has large plasma screens everywhere playing cool Japanese animes. Nice place to hang. VERY hot waitresses.

I'll try to think of some more fun, "non-touristy" stuff if I can . . .

Good pick, I have stayed at the Mondrian a few times and the skybar is tough to get into through the lobby unless you are on the list of hotel guests. you a right you need to get there early before the rope guys set up. The restraunt is Asia de Cuba which is incredible and the people from Ny will know the one at the morgan in Manhattan. The place has definitely had its day, but its still fun. I was there last month and Anthony Michael Hall was trolling through the crowd. He had an interesting take on the evening and I'll leave it at that.

The tropicana bar at the Roosevelt is another good outdoor pool bar when the weather is nice.

ALBERTO'S mostly south of L.A. i agree with John, and i bet he's missing a good burrito right now! cause there aint nothing like the real deal here in southern CA.

Good one! They just spent $$$ remodeling the pool/bar area at the Roosevelt and is frequented by a young, hip, (and, yes, attractive) crowd. Again, just walk into the hotel like you own the place (lobby "main" entrance is now at the rear of the hotel--NOT on Hollywood Blvd.) and move toward the pool area. The shortcut to the pool is through the hallway by the dumpster from the rear valet parking lot (just follow the smell). I've never seen a velvet rope or doorman or anything here. This is right across the street from Graumann's and a much hipper place to hang than the stupid $545-million Kodak Theater/Hollywood & Highland mall.

Cool... sometime we'll have to get coffee or lunch, or something... chat about filmmaking or whatnot.

Along those lines...didja get the PMs I sent ya, a couple weeks ago?

No pressure, regarding their content; just not sure if PMs always get where they're going around here. People tell me they've sent some, that I never saw, on my end...
