Things to do in LA

last time I was there, we rented Morrison's old hotel room at the La Cienega. Get drunk and high enough in there, it starts to work on your head.

Sure we have clear days, in the winter (and sometimes early spring) time.

Just not all that many of them. But when we have them, they're glorious.

Yeah, well it's a LOT clearer than it used to be... say between now and 5 to 10 years ago...

I second going to the Getty and add a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum if you're into cars at all. Hmmmm, what else. Just walking along the Santa Monica pier or Venice Beach is cool, but I'm landlocked in the Midwest, so that may just be me. Shoot, there's a great dive bar with great, cheap steaks just down the street from the Viceroy in Santa Monica but I can't remember the name. Anyone?

Oh yeah, DEFINITELY go to Santa Monica and check out Manpuku's on Sawtele. It's a Japanese BBQ place that is unfrickin' believable. Anyone who's been there on this board knows what I'm talking about. You get a plate of raw, but very fine, meet and you cook the meats yourself. Takes about 2min per piece(2 min for about 4pieces if you can fit on the grill at once). Anyways, go there, you won't regret it!

Also on Sawtelle - if you like sushi - check out Hide (heeday) Sushi. Cash only; the absolute best, freshest sushi I have found in the LA area.

uh, don't listen to anybody here. go to In and Out Burger every day for lunch and dinner. You won't be sorry.

go to the ARCLITE theatre and see a movie that's only playing in Los Angeles and nowhere else.

let's see, non-touristy... smoke, drink and dance to 80's remixes at Three Clubs until 2am, then head over to The Ledge afterhours where you can score and snort cocaine in the bathroom and hook up with drunk, desperate women until 5am. drag one of these "slumpbusters" back to your friend's apartment where she tries to give you a blowjob. unfortunately, the overabundance of drugs in your system keep a useful erection at bay.

Somebody's been reading too much American Psycho

Eads.... absolutely the best (and only good) reason to go to the Arclight.

Ditto on In and Out.

As for Sushi.... Max, your gonna have to come to Ike (E-kay) sometimes. Hollywood and Gower. I have spent every dollar amount on Sushi in LA and after trying 30 plus places (admittedly not Hide), there are only two places I'll eat. Ike and Chiba. Chiba is in North Hollywood.

My leading actress and I eat at Ike every Fri and Sat. It is not cheap, but it is the best fish in LA. And that's what matters to me. I'll pay $20 for a single order for the best fish and wouldn't think of spending $20 for all-you-can-eat of mediocre fish. (Ike's not $20....just an example)

A typical night at Ike including Saporo will run about $100 for two people. Although I used to do that by myself.

And our favorite chef at Ike (aside form Ike himself) is Hide.

Not fighting or debating, just letting you know of other great sushi options. There are too many whiners around here who take a simple opinion as a threat.

I really dig In and Out burger and when I was there last I was told of a secret way to order off the menu. You order the "animal" and they toast the bun and sauté the onions and some other stuff. I was told that it is a big secret so ... eh, ... never mind.

AHHHHHHH! I can't believe you posted the secret menu! It's supposed to be SECRET! Oh hell, forget it.

Anyway, a little-known fact is that you can also order animal style FRIES.

Yeah, they only have that one on the super secret menu. And I'm not telling any of you guys where that is.

HAAAA! funny thing is that the Bellman at the Roosevelt gave me the whole "pssst, hey mac, want a buy a piano?" routine, like it was a covert exchange of info about the secret menu. Well there you have it, now if we can only get an In and Out on the east coast. At least Boston still has Kelly's Roast Beef.
