There is no way to capture or edit in 24p using the DVRaptorRT2 card.

That's what the fine people at Canopus told me. I have the DVX100A, yet I can't capture at 24p.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects 6.5 and right now the way it captures is by converting the 24p footage into a 29.97fps video file. This causes problems because I can't edit the video in a 24 frame timeline. The frame rate gets messed up and it looks really jerky.

I've been trying to find a way to capture at 24p with this card, but I guess I can't since I just emailed canopus and they said "There is no way to capture or edit in 24p using the DVRaptorRT2 card."

So... can anybody out there reccomend a good capture card that WILL allow someone using Windows XP, Premiere Pro and After Effects? OR, is there something I can do to make what I have work? (though I doubt it)

I absolutely NEED to be able to work in 24p.

Thanks

Aren't you capturing using the Firewire port (1394)? No need for a capture card at all...

Oh. Unless you don't have any capture software. But Premiere must have a capture utility...doesn't it?

The problem is not Premiere itself. IF you are using premiere pro 1.5 that is. It supports 24P through it's capture application and editing interface. The raptorrt2 card essentially acts as a plugin to Premiere and therfore adds a ton of realtime effects and features. It does not support 24P at all in any manner. It will ignore the 24PA flags and just display any 24P footage as 29.97 interlaced. If you ditch the Canopus Card you will get all of the 24P support you need out of plain old vanilla Premiere Pro 1.5. However you will lose realtime output via the raptor card. Bummer. Canopus has been ignoring the 24P DV market for almost 3 years now. I can personally vouch for 3 of my colleagues who have abandoned our DVstorm setups in favor of a basic Premiere setup.

Oy...

That really sucks. I figured I might have to ditch the DVRaptorRT2.

That being the case, any suggestion on how I can capture 24p? Do I need another card? I'd love to be able to still have realtime output if possible with another card that DOES support 24p.
