I have been reading lots of posts lately about the challenges of shooting video of stage performances especially the lighting is inconsistent from different people doing different shows.
I wanted to post a thread for hopes of more information and advice specifically about white balance and exposure and the cameras I am using.
---------
White Balance:
When using multiple cameras how do you white balance since cameras are very far apart and some are close to the stage while others are far away?
Do you manually white balance each camera with a white board where they will be positioned or do you take all the cameras close enough to the stage and match them all on the same white board placed on the stage before positioning them?
I even read to just auto white balance but it seems that would cause a nightmare matching colors in post production when the cameras adjusted differently being in different positions/angles.
---------
Iris:
Since stage lights prove to be extremely bright, then dark and various colors, what is the best way to deal with that? Manually ride the iris with Zebras, trying to keep from shooting too hot and hope the cameras still match? Have the light crew light before the show and set all cameras exposures for the brightest scene and then leave it there? But then some acts could be too dark.
---------
I am using AG DVX100Bs and AG DVC60s, 29.97i
The footage they shoot looks the same so long as they are white balanced so the color matches. The DVC60 has a spotlight setting that might help. The DVX is different.
What settings should be used?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
