Theater Requirements for Feature Film

Can someone help me find links to requirements to submit a feature film for big screen theaters. What search terms would work. I don't want to film in 1080p if theaters want 2k.

I am interested in moving up from my DSLRs to something bigger, but want to make sure output is compatible with a theatrical release. I was an extra on Divergent ($80million budget). It was shot on Arri Alexas at 2k. I was surprised they didn't shoot 4k, like LOTR on Red Epic.

I am currently looking at a Sony FS700, C100/C300, or Black Magic 4k.

Maybe you want to look at DCP specifications? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Cinema_Package
That's the standard format that plays on theatrical projection systems. You can definitely create a DCP from 1080p video. Also, most theaters have 2k projectors.

You can shoot 1080 all you want for DCP - happens all the time.
