The Writer's Strike....

this might be a dumb question, but does the writer's strike affect up and coming filmmakers in a negative way? if so then how does it affect us the most?

in a nutshell what are the writers demanding and are their demands unreasonable? why is this still going on?? seems like a lose-lose situation for everybody.

It affects you if you are working in the areas of the production business that are managed by signatories to the Writers' Guild contract.

If you are not dealing with signatory entities, then it doesn't immediately affect you in any negative way that I can think of.

man i hope this thing is over soon. it's getting closer to february and the supposed return of Lost.

In a nutshell the writers want residuals for internet downloads/streams the same way they get residuals for TV b'casts and DVD sales, and IMO that's not unreasonable. It's still going on because, for one thing, the Studio's want to be able to stream an entire movie/TV show with paid advertising and call it "promotional" so they don't have to pay any residuals.

It's not lose/lose 'cause if the writers don't get residuals for internet downloads/streams now they never will and it will set a precedent when the other guilds enter negotiations.
