The World's Fastest Indian -- terrible title - great movie

Just caught this on video. What a great performance by Hopkins. He should win an Oscar for this. If it wasn't for the (probable) insistence on the terrible title by the director, this could have really took off on the indie circuit. It's kind of like Forest Gump meets Little Miss Sunshine set in the 50s.

Oh, and btw, if you're avoiding this for the same reason I was (Anthony Hopkins playing an Indian), don't worry. The "Indian" is the name of his motorcycle.

I thought this was a great movie. I've never seen Hopkins play such an unassuming, quirky character before. I'd definitely recommend it.

The title bugged you that much? I thought it was great. As soon as I saw the font they used for "Indian" on the cover in conjunction with the focus being motorcycles I just assumed it was referring to a brand...If the movie didn't do well I REALLY doubt it had much to do with the title.

Not gonna lie. The title is the reason i never even watched the trailer.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll toss this on the ol' Queue.

I love the title, but I'm a speed junkie (MPH not PCP) and knew immediately that it was about a racing motorcycle.

I also loved the film. I'll be buying it soon.

I'm telling you, the title cost this movie millions. You have the title "The World's Fastest Indian" on the poster and then Anthony Hopkin's face. 99% of the people who see that are going to assume that Anthony Hopkins is playing an Indian. And who wants to watch another movie with some actor trying to prove how good of an actor he is by playing a nationality not his own. It sounds pretentious and, basically, uninteresting. It confused people. I checked Rotten Tomatoes and more than a few critics noted the terrible title. I'm usually all about originality in titles. But this was just plain confusing.

Saw that at the Deep Ellum Film Festival here in Dallas with Roger Donaldson in attendance. Great movie. Loved it. Did not realize it was out yet, but will grab a DVD myself as soon as I see it.

Back in the 70's I believe Roger had done a doc on Burt so this was basically his long time baby.
