In addition to moderating here, I'm also the editor of the WorkBook Project's New Breed site and I wanted to key the community into something I'm involved in that will hopefully grow into something much bigger, educating filmmakers on how to reach their audiences theatrically and via the internet directly.
The WorkBook Project is offering an award to a feature-length film and has partnered with The Downtown Independent Theater (same venue where the 2nd Annual DVXFest was held) and IndieFlix (who are a rare entity in that they do not prey on indie filmmakers, they treat them incredibly well) to provide the winning filmmaker with support for a one week theatrical run in Los Angeles with a PR firm, street team, social media support, as well as mentoring.
There is a fee to enter. We couldn't pull in enough resources to get through the submission review process without it. Just know that this is not for profit at all. I know Lance Weiler (WBP founder) personally and no one is more selfless in championing a direct filmmaker-to-audience relationship. It is his goal to give one filmmaker with a great film an education on how to do a supported theatrical run and to give 20 filmmakers access to digital distribution outlets like Hulu, iTunes, Netflix, etc via IndieFlix.
I know first hand how the conventional distribution models are screwing filmmakers. This is very different, intended to empower and educate filmmakers. So if you have a feature-length film that has seemingly run its course, maybe its time for you to reclaim its value. I'd be happy to answer any questions. Otherwise, click the logo below to submit your film.
