Hey had an idea for a thread...

I'm a youngster in the video/film business. I studied film so much in school but I stupidly never took a business class. I feel ripe for being taken advantage of, and I don't really know what exact questions to ask to save myself trouble in the business world so instead I was thinking of asking for random words of wisdom, followed maybe by a short personal story explaining how you came to this conclusion.

Ex. Never do business with a guy named, "Snake." Always save 20% for taxes etc etc.

I'm looking to find some good business books too so if you have recommendations, that's really cool too.

Yeah I looked at that thread, lots of good stuff.

I guess my thread and that one are similar, I was thinking more not so much about just getting started, but once you've already started, random things that you have learned. What do you guys think? Is this thread different enough to continue?
 
If you have an email address, use it. That is, check your email at least a few times a day and always (and I mean always) confirm receipt of emails that have anything to do with jobs. And make sure your email address is not some nonsensical mumbo jumbo that isn't your first and last name.

dont work for free. dont work for "exposure" dont work to "get your name out" and dont "intern" at a firm that looks to you for advice.
