Are you including The Merchant of Venice in those films?

Unfortunately, Pacino has been a parody of himself for some time. That doesn't stop me from watching his movies and even enjoying some of them. It's just sad to see that he seems to be mailing it in, nowadays.

I have this idea that he needs a really stong director that will help him take chances again. On the other hand, is it possible that his great, early performances were the aberration and what we're seeing now is the real Pacino sans directorial guidance? I hope not.

Yet again I was thinking the same thing (and was just about to post it, ya bastid, ya!)

It could be argued as to the precise when that this Pacino spiral began...
but I have always found that it's been all downhill since Sent of a Woman. Ever since, he stopped acting from his heart IMHO, and began reverting to this default characterization. Loud voice, always stressing/accenting the later part of word, You know the one...http://www.eventsounds.com/wav/whooahh.wav -or- http://www.eventsounds.com/wav/flmthrwr.wav
