The Band...for whatever ails.

I used to watch The Last Waltz once a month for a couple of years. The exchange between Robertson and Clapton after the latter almost drops his guitar—the strap came loose—during "Further On Up the Road" is extraordinary.

Here it is. Robertson is playing rhythm while in the company of greatness until Clapton is a bit shaken by the near mishap. Robertson's solo seems to be an attempt at the crown—it's a fine solo, especially for him. But Clapton quickly regains his composure and comes roaring back, showing who is boss.

The Weight - one of the greatest songs ever. First heard it about 20 years ago and it still hasn't gotten old. Great post Pookie. I'm going to listen to The Band all day now.

I just happened to be singing the "Crazy Chester" verse of this song to myself this morning.
Literature dressed as Pop music - truly great.

i did a recording session with Levon Helm a few years ago and he was a very cool guy. I was playing keys in a band called Arcoda and he saw us perform in Woodstock, NY. He liked the music and asked if there was anything he could do to help us out so we asked him to come play drums and mandolin on our record. He did it for a small fee and a six pack of coke in glass bottles.

here's the record: http://www.amazon.com/At-First-Sight/dp/B0012C0G72/ref=ntt_mus_ep_wlb_oe_mp3

Levon plays on tracks 5, 6, and 7.

I always loved the camera work on this song, and the coordination with the lighting. Nice, fluid stuff.

QFT. Me too, bro. A couple weeks ago I caught sight of this box up in one of my closets that's full of videotapes, and thought to myself, "I bet 'The Last Waltz' video is in there."

A couple weeks ago I did my first two camera shoot, a band's farewell concert (the drummer died of cancer). Afterward, everyone was mingling and I heard one fan say to the frontman, "I saw the camera guys doing the Last Waltz thing with hand signals: 'You rolling? You rolling?!"

Made me smile.
