The Weather Man

I really liked it too. It's pretty much a study of the mind of a slightly depressed man. I'm a youngin and haven't had much trouble in my life, so I could definately relate to him as being somewhat depressed and disappointed in himself. I loved it, although i could see an older version of myself in Cage's character, which did in fact freak me out.

Definately one of my favorite films i've seen in the theater in the past six months.

yea im only 20 and i could relate to him. I felt everything he felt in a real way. I think gorb V is great director. I wanted more at the end of the movie becuase I was so into it.

I loved it. I saw it in theaters and have been waiting for its release. IMO, it was probably the most underrated film this year.

yeah itI wsaw it in theaters and Loved it. it came out yesterday and I had to get it. Underrated indeed.

Yes. I'm glad to hear you guys liked it because I've wanted to see it for a while, and a lot of my friends talk badly about it.

Has anyone else heard about this Indie filmmaker Milk (last name, not sure of the first) who made a short intro to this movie and shopped it to the studio in hopes of making it? I watched it and it looked pretty damn good.

It's on my Netflix list. God only knows when I'll get it though since I've been branded by Netflix for renting too many movies in a month and they seem to send me my bottom of the barrel movies...bastards...

I didn't like this one. I loved Michael Canes performance but I hated Nick Cage's. I thought he called it in.

Not to mention that the story line was repulsive to me. The story of a man who is not a good father, not a good husband, not a good writer, not a smart guy, not even a remarkable weatherman but is continually rewarded for his pathetic contribution to the world. Bad message. Bad movie.

The cinematography was top shelf.

But that scene where they try on clothes in the gap type store with the little fat girl is so awful that the filmmakers should be spanked publicly.

02 cents.

I think there's a LOT to learn from this film.

I got it today from blockbuster online and have watched it twice. I think the cinematography is beautiful and the editing and camera work is so simple, but it's all great. You can learn a lot about editing and setups by breaking these seens down because of the fact that they're so simply constructed.

The humor is so dry, there is a lot I didn't pick up on in the first viewing. The mixture of irony and subtlety was just fun to watch. There's so much symbolism that can be extracted from the characters, the story and the cinematography that it's just a good film to study. I suppose I've taken too many film classes and have been forced to write too many in-depth analyses about films, but I was sitting there the entire second viewing thinking to myself "wow, there's so much depth to this film. I want to watch it again"

I haven't had a chance to watch the treats yet... I saw there were some script, character and shot breakdowns or something. I'm looking forward to those. I wish this film had a commentary track. Maybe in a few months they'll release the "special edition" dvd or something. I did, however watch the trailer and as I said before, I think this is a very underrated film. The trailer didn't do one bit of justice for it. It makes the film look like a slapstick comedy. I felt like it was a mix between about schmidt and grosse point blank. I wasn't a big fan of about schmidt until I saw the film a few times. Perhaps it's the same way for you, Rook. Give it a second chance :P

i loved this film. i saw it in peru a couple of months ago. in Cusco, all the nightclubs show movies during the day. they have big DVD projectors and fill the dance-floors with couches. they'll give a choice from 5 or 6 titles and then everybody votes on what movie you're going to watch. and its free. and there's beer.

every time i see nicholas cage i hate him a little less. maybe he's actually improving as an actor?

That sounds awesome.

I hear you aon that but this film was an exception. He didn't seem to act it this movie so much as "perform". He performed the emotions but didn't seem to be present in them. I truly dislike that style of acting.

They do that? Switch to blockbuster.com. I made the switch about a year ago and it's so much better IMO.

it was very good...a shame so many people missed it in theaters...

A lot of people that I saw walking out of the movie (before I went in to clean up their ****) were laughing and talking about how it was the worst movie ever.

I felt bad about it, cuz it's really a good movie. It's kinda along the lines of a mainstream Gus Van Sant film--It's artsy, but a majority of the population won't get it and pass it off as crap.

(i'm not one to talk, I hated Elephant on the first watch. Everyone talked about how realistic it was to real high school life. Not only did I think it was much more overexaggerated in it's subtlty, but more boring than high school life. Even so, why would I wanna sit through six hours of high school, then go watch 2.5 hours more of the same stuff? Sant missed a major demographic there.)

I hope the Weatherman finds a market on DVD though, it seems like many movies do these days.

I don't care for Nicolas Cage as an actor. I've only seen, maybe three movies I liked him in...but that's two more movies than I like Adam Sandler in...

I thought Weather Man was a good movie. Underrated you bet. The kind of movie my family would think is crap, or "different". I laughed my ass off a couple times, yet is was sad, and relevant. Nick Cage? Well he played the character he usually plays, but it was a good fit.

If you don't want to look like a silly f*** in front of your dad, don't slap another man in the face with your glove, unless you are an 18th(?) century nobleman, which I am not. Or something to that effect. Killed me.

I'd like to own it I think.
