The War of the Worlds

Re: The War of the Worlds

Based on posts on that page and several of my friends opinions “Independence Day” was a remake. Also, as eluded to by one of the posts on that page, they (Spielberg) plan on sticking closer to the book than the 1953 film.

Side note: I wonder why some feel that a movie (Independence Day) that grossed $811,200,000.00 (USD) worldwide was a flop? (Box office only, not counting DVD, #10 on the all time world wide box office take)

I look forward to anything Spielberg does  :D

Re: The War of the Worlds

This movie is being rushed into production. Spielberg was going to shoot some movie about the 1973 Olympic games and Cruise was going to do MI:3, but I think for security reasons Spielberg's movie was pushed back so they rushed this into production in order to keep him on track with something.....

Although I could be mis-informed...

Re: The War of the Worlds

Sweet! The best thing I just read---"closer to the book"!!! Can't wait for it!

Agreed, and how does H.G. Wells WotW, 1938 Orson Welles radio broadcast, 1953 WotW ultimately = Independence Day. Wow.

I did some more searching here and there, this film will have a lot of pressure and expectation dropped on it off the bat. WotW is very close to a lot of peoples hearts (social commentary even relevant today in some peoples eyes).

I look forward to it, it’s like a heavyweight fight: one of our current greatest visionaries (imo) taking on the responsibility of interpreting a classic story from a classic visionary.

Re: The War of the Worlds

I have known about this (in rumours and specualtion) for some time now. I cannot wait.

Re: The War of the Worlds

Already heard rumblings that it will top Titanic in cost to make, over $250 mil.

not sure exactly why Speilberg is available, but the director for MI3 walked out a month before principal, so they were trying to regroup the project, but apparently couldn't, making Cruise available to shoot. (the director that walked out was Joe Carnahan the guy who did Narc).

War of the Worlds will be unbelievable. Cruise and Speilberg together is a can't miss(Minority Report).

Re: The War of the Worlds

Lets hope Spielberg does a new take on ALIENS and does not repeat ET, Close Encounters or A.I. Ofcourse it is based off a book so we might be in luck.

Any chnace we see an R ?

Re: The War of the Worlds

My uneducated guess is not a chance.(for an "R" rating.)

Troy marked the highest first weekend total for an R rated opening topping off at $50 million, then dropping off after. There's another R one that was real close, but as a whole PG-13 is definitely the way to go to make money, especially if the film is gonna cost over $200 million. You gotta intice little Billy so he can beg Dad to take him to see the movie he can't get into himself, but isn't so violent that Dad says no.

Re: The War of the Worlds

Spielberg can miss. Cruise can miss. The two of them together? Most definitely could miss. Minority Report wasn’t THAT good (though it was one of the very few Spielberg flicks I’ve liked since ’93), and Spielberg’s takes on classics haven’t been exactly stellar.

Re: The War of the Worlds

matrix reloaded was 80+ million opening week, highest for an R rated flick.

though this is alot like titanic....everyone already knows the ending. will they still go see it? *dramatic music*

.....if there's pg 13 boobs......maybe.

Re: The War of the Worlds

Ill see it for sure. I would like to see it straight up though and not in some BLUE MINORITY REPORT color correction. I hope it doesnt get to stylized.
