The Walking Dead - Season 3

new season, new thread. Episode 1 was better than I was expecting. What Lori said about her unborn baby caught me by surprise and was not in the comic ... mind = blown at that point

some pics to get the conversation going (and 'cause I'm a fan)

I can see why some people don't like this show. It's very slow paced compared to many other TV shows out there, and not too much happens in each one. But man do I love it! I love slow paced shows like this that still keep you captivated.

I haven't read the comics, so not sure how it compares. I keep hearing from a friend that 'it doesn't compare', but it's like a broken record with adaptations.

(p.s. just a small favor to me and those who haven't read the comics, can you please try warn us before any big 'spoilers' that may come from the comics? Already had a few things ruined by friends, thanks!)

Sure thing. I don't do spoilers as I hate it when someone spoils it for me. At least I try not to do spoilers - in my first post I mentioned that what Lori said about her baby was intense and I tried to be non specific for those who have not seen the seasons first episode. BTW it's not a slow episode.

I find the comic very different to the show - there are characters that are dead in the show that are still alive in the comic after 103 issues ! Kirkman keeps switching it up which is great. To me the show and the comic are equally entertaining, one is not better than the other.

I have a love/hate relationship with this show. The new episode was a gorefest. Not saying that I didn't enjoy it, but boy oh boy, how many different objects do I need to see going through a zombie's head until I've had enough. I personally had enough after the first pop through the hole in the fence, by the third advance, I was bored.
I prefer high tension over gore.

The stuff down deep in the prison was far more intense. Loved the ending too.

Still, this show drives me crazy sometimes. :cheesy:

Yeah when she said that thing about her baby I was like, wow, hadn't even thought of that. Makes me think now it won't happen though, but what a great idea. Spoiler------------Old man waking up scene was so intense, they really milked it....

I just got #103 of the comic and as much as I love it, the TV series is what I'm enjoying more

Really? I'm not questioning your opinion, I've just always heard the reversal.

I love the comic and it's brutal nature but I also respect the tv show. I consider the tv show to be more of an "alternate universe".

My main concern is Chandler Riggs (Carl). He's turned 13 and aging faster than his 10 year old character. Although I did get the opportunity to glimpse him in person on Sunday at a comic convention. He still looks like a kid. He can probably pull it off for a few more years.

I love season 3 so far. It's getting on the level of Breaking Bad. There I said it. I start to feel the same anxiety I do when I watch Walter White make his decisions. It's neat to see the transformation of Rick Grimes and the rest of the survivors.

Season 2 was difficult to get through but Season 3 has been top notch so far.

Wow episode 2 was STRONG!

***Spoilers***

When Rick killed the first prisoner, it's strange, I was proud of him. I mean really proud, because he finally did what needed to be done without hesitation, and it was very justifiable. Given the chance that prisoner would have tried to get him killed again. He was a threat and Rick dealt with it. It was no different than killing those two men in the bar in season 2. No big moral questions like with the kid they captured in season 2.

I also loved how it became a slippery slope, and he let the second prisoner die despite being a bit more morally questionable.

I love this. Curious to see where it goes with the two surviving prisoners.

Is the general rule of thumb to wait a day or two to talk spoilers?

Good episode last night. I wasn't crazy about the casting choice for the Governor but I think he'll do alright. They did a good job of building him up as the main villain.

He looks and sounds so much like Liam Neeson it's almost distracting, but he's a convincing presence. I think if they cast him as they drew him in the comics (like Danny Trejo) it would have been too obvious he's up to no good. It wouldn't be as plausible that Andrea starts to be drawn to him and his village.

Sundays are my only nights I watch tv, Walking Dead and Dexter. Man I would love to just to get to be on one of these sets to see how they film things....then again I am in Florida and walking deads only in Georgia...hm

Anyways I love the comics and have kept up to date but the more later issues I feel are getting less interesting. I like the new Governor compared to the comics because it makes me wonder how things will happen since they love to change the story a little bit compared to the comic.

+1 as in why the heck didn;t Andrea take out Negan? she's a sniper isn't she? Sorry to go off topic but 'hole in plot' alert

edit:
... and while I'm in a poking mood and back to the TV series - that last episode when they showed the Zombie heads in the fish tanks. I don;t think they did enough to show the heads were 'alive' with eyes and mouths moving. That's the guv'nors replacement for television for godsake

Great episode.

**spoilers**

Loved this episode. I really didn't like Lory, but I really enjoyed the fact that when given a choice she chose to give her life for her child. It's a complete turn around from the second season.

Clark I'm liking more and more.
