The video in The Ring

Hey guys

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas on how to sort of recreate the video that's in The Ring. I've read the thread talking about how the girl moves but am more curious to the actuall video (the one that after people watch, they get the phone call). If anyone could help it would be greatly appriated.

Take note of each short cut, and check what is going on. Recreate each thing, make them black and white and have some aging effects...

nothing that tricky about it, just time-consuming to recreate specific things from it.
 
or maybe even just shoot it with black and white film with on super 8 and try to use an old camera which would probably naturally scratch the film.
 
Use a TV-look effect, and ad bad signal waves.

And not black and white, moreso a creepy-blue and white color correct.
 
its desaturated a higher contrast and yeah some enhanced blue. But its not black and white...

The video is easy to make in after effects. Just add distortion lotsof grain and scanlines if you want to...
 
Well you could always consider getting Daveigh to play the role for you, she did a great job in The Ring. We see her at auditions fairly often so I know that she is still working. As for the practical versus VFX path, I always try to shoot effects as practicals if at all possible, then use VFX to clean up and enhance the look to suite your taste.
