The Uncanny Spielberg Effect

This whole thing disturbs me from beginning to end, like the Uncanny Valley effect but with Spielberg instead.

Ha ha, love it!

I totally get what you're saying, though. It's an uncanny valley, which is often the case with what I think is the best term for this: Appropriation. Come, let us borrow the good feelings from this thing, and try to sprinkle it upon our stuff. (End Result: You Are Still Comcast.)

Couldn't do it. 40 seconds in and I had to close it.

I know that it was a commercial film, and the reason such films exist is to make money. But there's just something grossly commercial about this. Obviously it IS a commercial, but you can feel it playing on your baser instincts.

It's kinda creepy.

I just didn’t think it was particularly well done.

It's impossible for me to hate it for one selfish reason. At the very end is revealed a planetarium ticket stub to "Black Holes", a Denver Museum of Nature and Science produced full dome show that I'm proud to have animated about 6 stand alone minutes out of the 23min run time. Narrated by Liam Neeson, It's one of the most widely distributed science based dome shows ever.

This was 4K by 4K animation in a circular fisheye format that was anything but trivial to create in 2005-2006.
