The Tiger King on Netflix

Now that work is slow, I've been able to catch up on some shows. I really liked Tiger King on Netflix. It has a lot of crazy twists and turns and the characters are colorful. I was also amazed by the amount of footage they had and that they interviewed so many people (like everyone said YES).

It got me thinking. This could make a great movie. I've heard some talk about a series, but I would prefer a fullout hollywood feature. Here's my dream cast:

Rob Lowe has already said he wants to play Joe Exotic in a scripted adaptation.

And as far as Carole Baskin, I think Nicole Sullivan looks like her.

And it all started, yet again, here in Florida, with a Florida Man. Sigh...

You don't have to be creative anymore, just read the news out of FL and you'll find something that will make a good movie or show.

Two of the guys that I used to travel/shoot with have a group text that always stays open and usually at least once a week, either me or our buddy from Chicago sends some messed up, unbelievable story that has happened in Florida. Our other buddy lives in FL, obviously. FOX News is great for this. Lol.

It's like a Cohen Brothers movie as it is, only more far-fetched. But if you did make a movie it would have to be Jim Carrey in the lead.

I tried to do this one, and maybe it was just the mood I was in, but it made me feel gross for watching it and I shut it off after fifteen minutes. I really didn't feel like spending seven episodes with these morons. I had a similar reaction to the documentary The Art of Killing, about death squad members in Indonesia who are treated like heroes in their own country. I watched about forty minutes of that and decided I didn't want to dignify the lives of those scumbags by watching any further.

I know what you mean. It’s hard to root for anyone in this documentary, honestly. It’s a train wreck with a lot of self inflicted conflict. I think that’s why I really enjoyed it.

Good casting choices, guys.

I know people who haven't got through the first episode. I'm sure they think we are all a little warped for watching it.

I don't even know if a fiction version would serve much point. It's not like it could be more batshit insane than the actual documentary.

That’s why I said in another thread, if someone came out of the blue and pitched this as a movie, no one would touch it, because it’s too crazy. But it was real and now it’s a part of pop-culture.

I don't judge. I get the train wreck aspect of it. Maybe if reality wasn't currently a train wreck as well I'd have enjoyed it more.

What impresses me more than the actual show itself is the timing and how the producers have found themselves in the perfect place at the perfect time. If this had been released a year ago,
it may have been written off as a total flop but now that the world is stuck inside, seeking pure escapism, it seems to have struck the right chord of Redneck, the beauty of the cats, consipracy, murder plot, big personalities
who are certified insane narcissists, all of these elements are a documentarians dream and with the timing of quarantine, they appear to have struck Gold.

Aso someone who has been shooting their own docu series the past two and a half years, I am envious, several people have already told me that we have missed out on a big opportunity because
our series is not yet ready to go, hasn't been pitched and should be on a streamer already. Regardless of what you think of Tiger King, the producers have done a good job in bringing their story to
the screen and building a buzz. That's no easy feat.

I absolutely HATE reality shows, but I watched every single episode of TK.

And yes, I think timing was absolutely key. Like they say, "It's better to be lucky than good, any day".
