The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
Old news I know.  I just now got around to viewing this film (The remake) after hearing about it for months and months.  I remember seeing the original as a child and being scared out of my wits.  I have heard tons of takes good and bad and after watching it for myself?

I loved it!  This was an excellent film and it actually felt scary (scary in a Hollywood sense; films don't scare me anymore really).  What I loved was that it was taken seriously as Se7en or Silence of the Lambs and not like Scream (which I love) or I Know What you Did Last Summer (which I hate).  This felt like a scary movie.  It felt real and I can't think of a better way to shoot it.

The photography was excellent.  There is no better way in my eyes to light a film like this one; the lighting just looked so natural.  The acting was first rate and who cannot love R. Lee Ermey's portayal as the sherrif?  This is the kind of film you can actually see happening.

They got it right with this one and I now see the hype sorrounding the film is real.  The DVD is loaded with extras including commentary from everyone involved (well, not the caterer and best boy; but you know what I mean).  I'm eagerly awaiting watching the entire commentaries especially the Technical.

If you havent seen it; run down and watch it with the lights out!  This film was rockin and scary and leaves a good/bad taste in your mouth like "Man, that would suck"

And who doesnt want to watch Jessica Biel run around in jeans, a tight tak top tied at the waist and a cowboy hat?

4 out of 5 Stars from me!

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

There is a severed head in one scene and I swear its Harry Knowles from aintitcoolnews.com

Anyone confirm this?

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Huh? What? Did someone post something here other than a twist-tied tank top?

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Intersting notes from a fansite:

"and if you’ve ever wanted Harry Knowles' head on a platter for any reason... wish granted. Also check out John Larroquette as the narrator. Doesn’t even sound like him."

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I just saw "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" for the first time several days ago and was pleased to discover that it's a really good film. It was well made and is an excellent example of the horror genre.

Jessica Biel burnt up the screen; she's so friggin' hot.

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Jessica was in fact burning it up. Nice lighting to accentuate her, uh, features. :D

lol... yeah, they do have a certain wessonality about them. ;)

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Just read Snopes . . . neither this, nor the original, was based on any actual events.

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Thats what they talk about in the DVX EXTRAS is the myth that this is a true story; apparently it was only inspired by 'Ed Gein' and not true at all. It's kind of cool how they introduce the story too you in the TRUE STORY DOCUMENTARY fashion.

I guess John Larroquette did the V.O. in the original to? Thats great!

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

i dont know why, but ive always pictured john typing messages on this forum with one hand, and cradling his dvx like a baby with the other

Yep...it is. Supposedly he turned up on the set one day and the director (Marcus Nispel) decided to use him in the film ;D

It was actually inspired by the life of Ed Gein, who use to wear the skin of his dead victims.

Hope that helped...

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Hey I liked this film, and the scene I got scared was when she was going away with the little girl and the guy just slammed the chainsaw against the car.

All the best

Fidel.

Re: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

They have some music from Motograter in there, a really good band...

I believe they used 'Suffocate'
