Just finished this excellent 5 part series by mark Cousins. In many ways better than film school!
So many eye openers and sources of inspiration...and I thought I was already well versed in the history of cinema.
Didn't know that for instance many if not most of the best writers and directors of silent cinema were women.

One discovery for me was the Russian master Parajanov who was imprisoned for several years for the making of Shadow's of Forgotten Ancestors

Well recommended, even if you don't always agree with his choices

This has just started on australian tv (sbs). After watching the first episode I immediately went online to buy it. He gets through at a ferocious pace but in just the first episode there was a calvalcade of ideas to exploit. I was particularly interested in Ozu and have ordered the cited films by him as well. Can't wait to see the rest of the episodes and see what other masters I've missed along the way.
