Most people it looks like hang a china ball when they can, but if there is no over head way to hang it, what do people use? Is there a cheap stand to buy? Also, once your done shooting you'll need to take out the light bulb, is there a special case that is designed to store light bulbs so they don't get smashed.

Generally, people extend a c-boom or c-stand arm singly or a double arm to hang a chinaball from.

You can also hang it from the ceiling if there's something to attach to. You can also tape the power cord to the ceiling or use an "autopole" or "wall spreader" to hang it from.

Microphone stand -- the kind that's articulated. China-balls weigh close to nothing, and easily sit on the end of a fully-extended stand.

I forget what the name of the product is but if you do a search you'll find talk about a company that sells a special fixture for china ball mount onto a stand.

what kind of bulb do and watt do you guys recommend for for lanterns? and i can only ever find chord that says is safe with up to 60 watts!!

I read on the website selling the china balls that theirs will only take up to a 300 watt, so you might want to keep a fire extinguisher handy, if you go with anything higher. :)

Don't waste your money on the film tools china bulb cords. I just had six of them on a shoot this weekend and they are crap. The on/off switch is plastic and will melt into place after the bulb (I had 250 watts) is burning for a little while.

After two days of shooting I had only two working fixtures. Luckily I had a pair of porcelain fixtures that Ive used for years and have never had a problem.

So please, do yourself a favor and buy porcelain china bulb fixtures.
