The speed ramp scenes in 300

Were those shot overcranked the whole way through, and then slowed down at point in post?

I'm doing an equivalent scene in an upcoming music vid shoot.

I've never attempted speed ramping like that. I do have AE CS3, though.

My friend told me to shoot it all undercranked and slow down in post, which I immediately objected to, considering the fact that doing that would create duplicate frames

am I right?

Help.

I dont think they were over or undercranked, I think those scenes were shot at something like 120 or 150 fps and well doing that gives you the freedom in post to speed or slow down to taste and looks awsome of course, someone with more knowledge will sure chip in :)

Read American Cinematographer, they had a whole article on it. Or listen to the comentary.

They had 3 cameras - 2 cameras were going through a prisim at different speeds on the long lens, and 1 at one speed for the wide, if I remember correctly. Then the morphed and matched the footage in post.
