The Shield...

What up guys?
I just got done watching the shield and noticed a lot of it looked DV kinda footy...any one know if it is shot with the DVX??? I'd be interested to hear about any other shows too!

We were just talking about that tonight, too. All I could find out was that the show is shot on 16mm. That doesn't mean they don't use video, though.
 
yes it was shot was super 16. The director actually was thinking about going HD but it wined down to 16mm. Who knows, they might decide to try out the new Panny camera. Could save them big dollars.
 
Hmmm, it really looked like they did use some kind of DV video, in the 1st part of the show they were in a club and it looked really DVish...like almost cheap DV footy...I was surprised how much it changed all of the sudden a few times through out the show.

That is exactly where we thought it looked like video, too. I'm wondering if they may have used video just for that particular show since it was wrapped around that "rap/porno video" that started the shooting war. It may have been carefully placed video instead of film to play up on that.
 
aaa, yeah that kinda makes sense...kind of a wierd way to do if you ask me. The quality of that show is one of the reasons I watch it, I was really surprised when I saw it drop in quality like that. well now that I think about it, it dropped in quality every time the police did something shady...so you may be right on, but I don't see "normal viewers" picking up on that...maybe I'm wrong though. I have a couple mass media and society classe this semester and I over analyze alot of stuff now...

I started noticing the video look in small parts in season three. Now that season four has started I am forced to believe that it wasn't just a glitch, it just looks too much like video in some parts. At first I thought it had to do with the set design, but now I'm convinced that it was done (at least partly) with video. They use an Arriflex SRIII 16mm camera for most of the camera work (season's 1-3).

Season four is pretty raunchy. I've seen more sexual material in the first two episode than the previous three seasons combined.
