The "Shakiness" of Film

I'm gonna post some screengrabs here soon. I am trying to get it so the forum can display it full size. It is only displaying it small. It is clickable so you can see it full size on another window. How do I make it so it is full size on the post already?

Host your own pictures eleswhere like on geocities or Pbase, for example. Then, post a link here.
That's what everyone does; we have our own personal websites and link to them.. Hope this helps.

No no no, I have the pictures already hosted. but i don't know how to post it on here to make it be displayed without having the link.

Links

Can anyone tell me how to display these links so that they are full size on the forums? For some reason only the first one shows up.

is something wrong with that? what do you guys think? how can I make it better? how did you do that with my pictures?

Your links were to the webpage, not the actual picture. So--I visited each page, right clicked and copied the link of the actual picture and posted that link here.. It's all good now. Slip Bleach is kind of neat, I like it a lot.. Others think it's over used, but to each their own. Your grabs on the whole look very good. Remember everyone, this is not DVX footage.. This is from a Sony TRV-70 consumer single ccd camcorder. Nice stuff, regardless of your equipment limitations, I think you've made an excellent work out of what you had. I don't think a DVX would look much different/better than those grabs. Stuff looks nice.

are you serious? you don't think the dvx would look different? it would feel different but the look would be the same?

what do you mean slip bleach? it isn't a plug in. I just messed with contract, brightness, and the color levels (red blue and green). How do you think I should set it up?

guys, please comment on them. Tell me what you think and if I can have a chance of winning at a festival with this look or atleast impress people

Skip bleach is a film term - you would skip the bleaching stage that the film goes through as it's being processed. It ends up giving you a slightly washed out, but higher contrast image - the silver is retained in the print. Adjusting the video levels can simulate this effect - just what you did.

I think they look good. If you're worried about winning festivals, that's another issue - because the context in which these images are used is what will determine how effective they are in your movie. Have I seen stills that have given me a more dramatic reaction than yours? Yes. But I haven't seen yours in the context of your movie - if they express your vision to the highest ability, then you're much more likely to be noticed on a world stage than if they do not. For all I know, you were shooting a romantic comedy, and the picture was distracting - then again, maybe it works in YOUR romantic comedy. I can't tell you without watching the whole movie.

But the grabs are clean - now lets hear what your movie's about.

Oh no way man, I am not shooting a romantic comedy movie. This is an action movie with drama. There is like probably a romantic sub-plot, but this is like a bad boys II movie. Bad Boys II had some romantic but it wasn't based on that. it was action comedy. that is how I want mine to be. and these grabs I showed you were just me and my friends shooting around Newark, NJ (where War of the Worlds was shot with Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg). I just took the best shots of them. But I can make it dramatic and nice. How good do you have to be to win these festivals anyway? Like, it feels weird just doing this movie just to do it. You know, spending all this time for research and money to make this movie good. I want it to do something. I want it to impact people's lives and also win festival. I want to get noticed. I am sure noticed around my area because there are a few people like me who do films. So what do you think I am capable of here?

what are other look can I accomplish with what I got? like with the color levels, contrast, and brightness?

You can accomplish many different looks through colour correction - I could spend hours giving you a tutorial - basically, just play around with it if you don't know what you want, and find what looks right, for what you're going after.

To ask "how can I win a film festival?" is like asking "how can I make a good movie?". I really can't tell you, it's something we all have to figure out for ourselves - and if I knew, then I'd be winning film festivals! It also depends on what kind of festivals you want to enter - smaller ones are much easier to win awards in. I entered a short film of mine into Sundance and Toronto and was rejected from both of them - so I can't help you there.

Local festivals will be much easier to get into (here in Toronto, my Sundance rejectee was accepted into several smaller festivals). People watched it and took it for what it was, and while I'm not on the world map or anything, I got to see people's reactions to my movie. I'd recommend taking it one step at a time. If this is your first project, use it as a training ground. I've made many movies over several years, none of which are Sundance-worthy, but I still have the drive to keep going, and find the fun in learning. So don't be discouraged if you don't get any media buzz about your movie, because your movie is YOUR movie. Nobody can change that - and as an artist you will learn more and more as time goes by. You'll create the art because you feel the need to create the ART, not because you feel the need for people's acceptance of it.

To paraphrase Nick Nolte's character in a short by Scorcese, "You'll never give up if you care about making your art. And if you do give up, then maybe you weren't much of an artist to begin with."

I bet you'll have fun finishing this movie - so who cares if nothing happens with it? Learn from its mistakes, learn from its successes - and keep truckin' along. You'll have made a movie!

Deep man. Real deep. Sweet. You movitated me to keep going. When I first started filming when I was really young, I loved doing it. I didn't care how bad it was. I didn't care about the quality. I didn't even know computer video editing existed. When I saw all this technology and started comparing stuff to the pros, I started losing site of the love I have to just pick up the camera and tell someone a story. I used to show my sister and loved to see their reactions. I used to sit everyone down and make them watch my wack movies. But I enjoyed watching them watch my movie because it was MY movie, MY ideas, MY passion.

What did they do with your movie after they watched it? They just said good job and let it go? Like how does this film festival thing work? Like you get accepted just so people can watch it? I'm new to this, help me out here.

Oh and, can you tell me the website of that series that you said is similar to my tagline. I'd like to see it or find info about it. Thanks for your help man! You were always the one who truly helped me out.
