Hey Peeps. I love the DVXUser community. I've learned so much over the years from folks here.
I'm just sharing this video to highlight the importance of using the right tool for the right job.
I have chosen a photography challenge to highlight the point. Over the years, I've seen our Buddy Barry Green emphasize the importance of using the right tool for the right job.
Why shoot RAW for documentary? Why shoot a hacked camera on a commercial shoot? Why shoot event footage in shallow DOF? ....why indeed....
(BTW...I know their are reasons that someone may choose to do each of these things....but, that's not the point)
So, this video is almost 3 years old, but I watched it and had fun doing so. I hope you all enjoy this as well.
Here's "THE STROBIST", David Hobby, in the finale (2012) "Pro Tog, Cheap Camera Challenge". This brave soul accepted the challenge of shooting 5 photo shoots (for fun) with a "Buzz Light Year" 2 MP camera.
After watching this video, it made me think of where we are today. With DIRT CHEAP equipment that FAR OUT PACES most of our skills and imagination, ....I'm left to giggle at this silly challenge and wonder why the crap anyone would do this to themselves ON PURPOSE? Some folks STILL SWEAR by out dated equipment that is NO LESS EXPENSIVE than the PROPER tool for the job. (I'll bet you could buy a GF1 for cheaper than that Buzz Light Year Camera...)
Again....I totally understand why they did it on the challenge....and it was good fun. (And yes...some of the pics were just fine.) But why, in this day and age of $500 BMPCC, or $1500 AF100s (just checked ebay)....would anyone CHOOSE to afflict themselves and their artistic partners with this "shoe-horn"/square-peg-round-hole mentality. GET THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB ALREADY!!!!
Cheers everyone! Enjoy!
