The Revolution Has Begun...

The wall has been breached; the outer defenses are cracked, and the Empire is beginning to crumble.

The WGA is going to go it alone, and with some serious backing.

An acquaintance of mine who worked in the industry for 25 years told me two weeks ago that this could happen, and Patric Verone should see the light. Well, it looks like it's happening. It would take a lot to truly crumble the studios, but there is no reason the WGA shouldn't stick it to them and go on their own. The net is so big, there's plenty of room, and the future looks bright. And with the backing they're likely to get, they should look into starting their own studio, and TV network. SAG, DAG and everyone else, including all the advertising dollars, would follow.

There is still the issue of true distribution and advertising. All these new deals
are just replacing the distributors with new distributors... whether its NBC or
Apple on the other side of the table, the power is still in distribution.

In the end, creators worth with distributors and unless you're willing to give up
most of your creative time to build your own distribution network, you're gonna
end up in the same negotiation positions.
