The Pink Panther

Looks like it might have potential. I like Martin.

I think that kind of humor might be dated though... :undecided

The original Pink Panther is a very funny film. Why the need to remake it? Just rent the original.

Yeah, you would hope they'd update the style of humor somewhat, but I did find myself laughing at the trailer a few times -- mostly because of Steve Martin's timing.

I still listen to the Wild and Crazy Guy album -- errr, CD -- and laugh myself silly, even after... ouch, well, I'll just say, "after all these years..." It's a great tension reliever when stuck in traffic.

oh man the way that stunt person landed with his head bouncing off the floor holy cow. i don't think they planned that. anyways i am definately seeing this

did anyone notice the part where that big ball rolls in front of the bikers and the bikers crash and flip before they even hit the ball. Not sure if that was intentional or not.

well ...i was thinking hte same thing but then again if i saw something in front of me that big i would slam on the brakes so hard the front one to be exact that i would go flying too

I can't bring myself to download the trailer, but if its the same one I saw in the theatre a few months back....

it doesn't look funny. It looks like Martin is trying so hard to be funny, but the gags aren't funny and the whole trailer felt forced. The fact the movie was pushed from summer to winter is a hugely bad sign as well.

I really like Steve Martin, but he's no Closseau. There was only one. So why bother?

MAN quit with the negative vibes man golly gee whiz

Ought2bCommited, I remember theatrical trailer and I didn't care for it either. This one has a few of the same scenes, but it's different and it is actually funny, as you could gather from this thread. I like Martin and I'm willing to give it a try...

I wouldn't go that far because there were people who thought the theatrical trailer was hysterical... but I'll check it out and see. Thanks!

i'll probably check it out. i'm a huge steve martin fan and love all of his movies (i still have to see shopgirl). whether panther will be as good as the original or not remains to be seen but i'll check it out to see.

I am a really huge Steve Martin fan. That is probably the ONLY reason I'll see this movie. Peter Sellers WAS Jacquea Clouseau and it seems a travesty that this is being remade. I'm personally disappointed in SM for making this. What might happen is that I'll be blown away but what's more probable is disappointment from one of the funniest men alive.:(

About the movie trailer: the one I saw spent half the time talking about the music (Henry Mancini, where the theme came from, etc.), and NOT showing too much footage from the film. DANGER DR. SMITH!

That sounds pretty interesting.

Yup, I can smell crap a thousand miles away. My wife talked me into seeing it, and what a waste of several George Washingtons this was.

Every bit as bad as I thought it was in Decemeber (yes, I am back on my negative vibe...sue me, dude)...and worse if you can believe it.

There are one and half funny moments in this "movie"...why a half? If you've seen the trailer--any of them--you've seen it already and really it isn't as funny the umteenth time around. And really, the movie isn't that much longer than the trailer. LOL.

The movie did nothing to reverse my feelings about the trailers and early pre-release footage I had... Martin trying too hard, the PP feel not being there, and everything just looking and feeling "off". The movie itself cements these notions.

Martin is a very funny guy, just not lately. As Clouseau he is REALLY unfunny. You can't even say he's doing an imitation of Peter Sellers because I've seen some amazing imersonators over the years capture the essence of everyone from Elivs to KISS. Martin captures nothing of Sellers' Clouseau. It is impossible to look at Martin as Clouseau and not be...offended? Martin's Clouseau does nothing but sight gags every five seconds and ham to the camera every other second. It really is embarrassing...like 1977 Elvis...fat, bloated, past his prime and trying to squeeze into a jumpsuit too tight... Martin is trying to squeeze into a role that will never fit him. Martin desperately wants to convince us he IS Clouseau. Sellers did it effortlessly. There in lies the problem.

I don't know what it was exactly that made the early PP movies work more than not, and generally I am not one to think an actor is irreplaceable... but everytime Hwood tries to milk more $ from the PP, it just convinces me even more that Sellers was just that...irreplaceable. I'm sure this farce of a movie will break even and probably even make some green, but I hope Martin chooses to find his dignity somewhere else and not in a PP2, or a Cheaper 3.
