Mention the word gay and one will appear.

Did someone say gay?! Helloooo! Buttercream, buttercream... does your partner want to be wrapped in silk too?

Well.. I took back the Mini and traded it for the Dual 2.3 G5. What a frickin difference. Incredible. John, you dont want the mini.

Jarred- what do you think about getting a G5 for video editing, effects, etc. and then a Mini to use strictly for web browsing, etc.

ha ha.. yeah Tell Tom he owes me $4000. Everytime I visit that guy it ends up costing me.

Yeah.. if they didnt take the mini back, I was gonna use it for a email station. Its perfect for that. The G5s are just so much faster.

I was thinking of getting a mini for internet, music, and photos, but my problem is the whole kvm thing. Not sure if it would work too well. I use 2 monitors on my powermac and don't want to give one up for the mini.

I've heard the kvm switches aren't all that reliable. we'll see....

What happened about dual core...???

I thought there was going to be a big shake up. Apple is due to update the range soon. Maybe a month or two??

You have to remember the mini was invented as a bridge between windows and Mac, for those that were considering a new computer who could take their old PC keyboard, mouse and monitor and simply plug it in. It's a fun computer but very limited in both storage ability and connectivity tot he outside world. I use one for home automation as it fits perfectly on shelf in a closet.

one thing that i cannot stand is the fact that (duh) windows media doesnt work proper on Mac.. i never knew how much i relied on that thing.

I have always hated Windows Media Player....but there is a good app called flip4Mac that will solve your dilema Jman

Also when exporting video or images there is a gamma shift....between Mac to PC

VLC Player is a great multiplatform Open Source player that plays just about any format. It's constantly in development and always getting better. It's sort of like the *Firefox* of media players:

thnx man, i just downloaded it and now it looks like i'll be able to watch the .wmv entries from the film festival

Sorry Kai.. you be wrong on this. Motion is VERY ram dependent. ITs using the videocard GPU to render. It is not like AE.

But if you dont have a mac you wouldn't know this, so no worrys.

Sorry Justin, but how much ram you have doesn't affect what is rendered to your output file. How you create your project does.

ps: motion and shake both render whatever you tell them to. Ram will only speed things up a bit and give you more room to breathe by reducing the memory bottleneck. Shoot, you can render 4k film frames in after effects on a 300mhz mac, it just takes forever. I did it years ago just as a test. In your case, it looks like you have some funky settings goin on in your particle system, or you messed up with a 3:2 pulldown.

Gee all this mac talk and Im still running strong on my Atari Mega St 4. Yep 4mb of Ram! An os that never corrupts, cause TOS is on a ROM chip, don'tcha know. No virus or spyware. And I got tons of great games! AND i have built in MIDI ports!

HEllz YA!

Although I find it kinda hard to save an hour of DV footage on double sided floppies, but its worth it, cause floppies never go bad.

Its a shame Atari doesn't still make computers.

I do own 3 Mac's, but I just don't love them like my first Love... Atari ST.. Let me count the ways.

oops, looks like i spoke too soon :(

Just download the Windows Media Player for Mac. It's somewhere on MS site. I use it for WMV and VLC player for AVI, though I'd have preferred not to use either and stick to QT... if only all the video files on the planet were MOV :cheesy:

EDIT: HERE
is the link. Now, go watch those WMVs - a lot of good entries encoded with it

Actually, Kai is perfectly right on this. Motion IS ram dependant, as in "the more RAM you have, the smoother the real time work goes". BUT the ability of an app to render out the movie has nothing to do with the amount of memory - render it on 512MB machine or 2GB you'll get the same output file. It's just the speed you'll be able to do it at would be different.

And Kai does have a Mac.
