The Park Bench Trailer Is Uploaded! (shot with LetusX)

All footage was shot with the Letus Extreme + HVX200 combo. I JUST uploaded the quick trailer I made last night on my temporary website. You can see the trailer, grabs, plot and credits here:

http://www.bettatalk.com/the_bench.htm

In a few days everything will be moved to the permanent website address at

www.theparkbenchmovie.com

You can read details on how I filmed it and see behind the scenes photos on the other thread:

I hope you guys enjoy the footage, it is my very first film and I am litterally levitating from happiness and excitement. What a great adventure this has all been!

Nice shots. Kudos for shooting in the storm..looked superb.:)

Yep it was pretty awesome. The storm footage was filmed over several days. Every time the weather went bad I would run to the park with all my gear...

I lost part of my hard case foam that way, the wind one day was so strong it lifted the lid, took the foam and that thing went flying at 50 mph, I could not catch up with it...

Next time, LATCH the case when it's windy Faith!!

Yada, yada, yada...

Yada, yada, yada...

Nice imagery but one cliche' after another in the script.

Looks great, but the audio bothers me. The music was fine, but there was something wrong with the dialog. The quality of the sound on some lines is really pitchy and metallic for whatever reason.

I enjoy your work Faith, but you should really have thicker skin. Don't challenge the credential of everyone who has criticism of your film.

Oh yes the pitchy mettalic sound is because DAILY MOTION resamples everything and it makes the footage darker, more pixelated and the sound more distorted, I have noticed that problem time and time again.

As for thick skin? Are you kidding? I am a hotrodder! No, I do like to see the work of the people who act as film critics simply because it helps me guage where they are coming from, from a filmmaking point of vue. It is meant well.

To me, filmmaking is an art and as such, the artist can do whatever they want. Some people might like it, others might not, but it would be nice if people just enjoyed sharing it without feeling the need to immediately pick it apart. Take it for what it is, my vision, which I am sure is very different then your vision or his vision... I can sit here and pick my own work apart until I am blue in the face, God knows I am one anal retentive perfectionist. It's just never good enough forme. But one must know when to let go and just enjoy the experience of creating art.

Just my humble opinion ;).

i haven't posted any of the films i've made in the last 2 years. only test footage and one short i dop'd on. so take my opinion for what you will.

"i hate you i hate you i hate you...." i'm sorry but i laughed at that. it's probably a really dramatic moment in the story but it's just funny.... cut it maybe?

the trailer.
a bunch of somber faces, people crying and putting their hands over their faces repeatedly doesn't make me want to watch the film at all. it just makes me cringe.

it doesn't make a good trailer and you've given up some of your potentially most moving images in the trailer.

and the loud noise synced with the text at the end it just bad.

i agree with everyone else's criticisms so far.

all the best

THIS IS NOT DIRECTED TO ANYONE.

Every artist's work is like the first time you fell in love.

You are so involve with all the problem solving that only you know what a great job you had to do to come up with what you got.

I know. I usually work on my own and even though I haven't made a movie I do make TV commercials and corporate work. Most of the time I work alone with no help at all. It is hard for me to see the minor mistakes I am doing because I am in LOVE again.

I recently did a job that had to be produced and finished the same day with the customers doing the the acting. I was so proud of what I had done that I posted it right away. Well, you know the rest. I had people that don't even use their real name finding mistakes all over it. How could they see anything wrong with it? I did a great job with what I had to work with.

I can tell you that at first I had the same reaction as Faith. After I had sometime to cool down and realized that I also had some heavy hitters make the same comments I decided to just listen to them and do the changes that they suggested and re-post.

Faith was brave enough to post her new baby and that is better than a lot of you that are always waiting to take that first step. It is easy to come here and hide behind a fake name without even posting you URL for other to see who you are and what you do.

Sure the film has thing that can be improved. I know that Faith will do them eventually.

The best way to learn is when you are critiqued.

Amen.

And Faith had the courage to post her trailer here for comments, and the good sense to do a short before taking on her feature. Is "Bench" flawed? Sure it is. Anyone's first film will be.

Aside from my sincere congratulations to you Faith, all I can do is echo Douglas's sentiments where criticisms are concerned. They are actually your best friend at this stage, because they will help you zero in on what you need to do better next time.

At a certain point in every artist's effort (as long as they don't give up) they move out of the sphere of being viewed through the beginner's lens, where many obvious flaws are graciously forgiven, and into the sphere of "why should I spend my $10 on *your* movie tonight instead of the latest from Scorsese?". Sooner or later, the truth will need to be "because afterwards, you'll be really glad you did".

Many indie filmmakers fade away at just this point. I think it's too often because they didn't evolve enough as artists, and the reason, at least in part, is that they listened to too many compliments and too few criticisms. IMHO, as long as criticism isn't reckless or mean-spirited, it's extremely valuable.

Sermon mode: off : )

Hi again Faith. I don't have an adapter yet. Waiting to place my order next week when a check clears and my Amex is ready. :)

Not sure if you, or some others here on the board find themselves doing the same, but sometimes it seems I'm not happy with my final output. I keep going back and tweaking for fixing things. My last project is no where near what you all have done, but every time I thought I had it, I would spot something and make more tweaks.

I was on a tight deadline so I finally had to just wrap it up. When we premiered the DVD, inside I was noting things I could have done better, but my audience was in awe. Mind you, they are not film makers. :) And the kids, (project was for them,) loved it!

Ho...

I am on Safari, and the trailer isnt working for me :(.... From the grabs it looks great, hope the acting is up to par with your images.

Jon

am so glad you got it done with all your problems with your first Letus. Would love to see the finished film. Am actually flying to LA on Saturday to start a feature project myself.

Anyone who posts stuff on forums, including me, is brave. You are opening yourself up to criticism no matter WHO YOU ARE!! Show me a film that everyone agrees is wonderful and I mean everyone!!

Good luck with the finished film...as I said really would love to see it. It must be one of the first Extreme films made.
