The Overlook Hotel

Its a common thing to "cheat" where things are, not only for layout between how sets are laid out exteriors vs. interiors but even set decoration in various sizes of shots. On a recent project we did it all the time. Yes, this guy has way too much time on his hands. Just because its Kubrick I guess. If it was Melvin Schmidlapp from Pigsknuckle Arkansas, not only would nobody have even bothered in this direction, they wouldn't have cared either. Wait till this guy learns about the internal layout of the Tardis vs. its exterior...

I think it only adds to the organic, or "paraorganic" vibe of the Overlook itself. The hotel (and Jack's mind, for that matter) is an ever-changing labyrinth of fukeroo-ness.

Cool stuff. :beer:

Wow! The amount of detail this guy goes into is mind boggling! It amazes me that he actually thought so much about this issue he created a video like this in the first place. Very well done though

This guy must be a trekkie. So they found a small window on the exterior of the hotel on a place that looked better than the one on the interior? So what? That's how you shoot movies, it's all make believe so you can cheat and what looks good in camera is what you go for - not what's true to the actual location.

Interesting, but I think the real reason behind most of these 'discrepancies' are more mundane, such as;

Kubrick; This shot in the manager's office would be more interesting with light coming from behind him through a window.

Set Designer; But there's a hallway there.

Kubrick; I want a window.

Set Designer; Okay.

Yeah, I think Batutta's right on this one. To try to ascribe any hidden/special meaning to that would be nutty, especially since it happens all the time.
