The Official Manhattan LCD HD Monitor Thread

Hey John, as to my question above - is there any way to flip the image on the HD071A vertically (upside down)? It could come in handy, but I didn't see it on the settings. Maybe something you guys can do in the next software/firmware revision? Can't imagine it would be too tough to do technically. Thanks!

The picture can’t be flipped. Trust me, if the image flip registers where still available, image flip would have been one of the first things we would of added. And that’s why we have a mount on the top of the monitor, as Huy Vu indicated, mount it upside-down.

We are trying to flip the image using the scaler, however we are getting no luck.

I have got one HD089B. I thing, it is good monitor. Good brightness, colors. 8.9" big screen is big advantage for me, and resolution is high enough for critical focus. What I don't like is no manual controls on front panel. It is not user friendly to go through the menus ... It is big disadvantage from Marschalls. Also, there is problem with mounts, case is too soft, you must be carefull to operate with the monitor. But, the good price of HD089B is what decided.
I will write some short review in the future.

How does the Manhattan 8.9" monitor compare to the 7.1" model when it comes to critical focus? Is the 7.1" screen large enough to give you good focus control?

So here's my initial thoughts on the HD071A.

Cons: The biggest problem I have with this monitor is that there is no available hardware from Manhattan designed for mounting it. It does have mounting screwholes on the top and bottom, but this unit is fairly heavy when the sunhood is on - it makes it cumbersome as well. I've tried various hardware to attach it to both the camera or the tripod, with varying degrees of success. It definitely feels too heavy to mount to the hot shoe on the camera, so I had to come up with alternative positioning. I've managed to attach it to the tripod using some lighting clamps I had lying around. Manhattan could easily add another $100 or so to every order if they came up with a good mounting solution and added it to their lineup.

It has taken us a while to contact a decent affordable manufacturer of mounts and clamps but we finally struck a deal with a supplier out of china we will be adding a line of shoe mounts Israeli arms and clamps to our store next month. They all appear to be of extremly high quality all aluminum with steel 1/4x20 threaded ends. From the samples we recieved from the supplier they appear to be of the same quality as the larger name brand manufacturers. a complete arm/clamp kit will be priced right around $100 just as you requested... see we do listen LOL.

Do u guys calibrate your manhattan lcds with a light meter such as an eye on pro? I have one that I use to calibrate my 60inch pioneer 141 kuro to ISF standards.

I'd like to know the answer to this question aswell. I was thinking of getting the 10 inch kit DIY kit they offer. I was wondering if the 10inch display being true 720p can easily show a more critical focus than an 8.9" display aswell?

Anyone using a 10inch display for their rig setup?

great; those arms are waaay overpriced and all appear to be identical aside from branding. i have a noga (i think it is a noga) as well as a redrock micro, both i believe to be the same product, different brands.

We can, however it takes alot of time to due it correctly; its not efficient when running large orders. With the our newest software for the HD0X monitors, the image processor does an excellent job calibrating the monitor when its in the factory mode. Brightness and Contrast are dead on. The customer only needs to adjust Color and Tint a few points with a blue gel.

Hey guys quick update:

We have a new 5.6" monitor out end of this week, 1280x800. And we will have a 900 nit version of it soon. Check out website for specs.

We brought the HD089C back, 1280x768. We moved the buttons to the front of the monitor as requested by many of our customers. These are in limited supply. (There is new software for this monitor, free firmware flash if you want one for your existing monitor)

We are clearing out some room so I have some good specials on B Grade monitors. HD8900's, HD089C, and HD071A for $150-100 off normal price. Please email me if interested.

John, can you tell us a bit more about what kind of extended feature the HD5 has? Underscan, focus assist, exposure assist? What kind of physical button layout does it have and is the menu easy to navigate (my biggest annoyance about the 89A is the "secret" menu that's nearly impossible to access using remote)? Can the user assign their own button? Can the firmware be updated by the user for the future?

Hi Huy Vu,

The monitor has typical features as our other HD0XX monitors. $899, we might drop it $100 to stay completive, but here are the specs:
5.6” 1280x800
300 nits
170/170 Viewing Angle
Brightness, Contrast, Color, Tint, Sharpness, Color Temp on ALL inputs.
Freeze Frame, H + V Position
Scale AUTO, 1:1, Fill Aspect, 4:3, 16:10, 15:9, 16:9, 1.85:1, 2.35:1, Fill All
DVI Color Space (RGB or YUV)

No underscan adjustment, however underscan is set to 0% (All HD0XX), so you are not losing any of your picture. No focus assist or exposure function but are coming soon(see below). We moved the buttons to the front of the monitor, up, down, left, right, input, and menu. Very easy to navigate now. Yes the monitor can be user firmware upgradable – just need to buy a special cable from us, or send it in and have it turned around same day.

We are writing new software as we speak, we are adding: False Color, Screen Markers and Guides, Blue Gun, Presets, Picture in Picture, User changeable under/over scan, ect. We should have the new software in 2 months and it will be shipping on all of our HD0XX’s. As for the secret menu, all of the non dangerous items will be moved to the advance tab, so you don’t have to worry about that anymore.

Manhattan HD089A won't boot up...

I was attempting to calibrate my HD089A when the menu freezed (stopped responding). I was forced to remove the power plug as the monitor would not respond to any buttons. Now the monitor will power-up when I press the power button, the screen will flash and illuminate the back light, but will not display the menu or inputs when the buttons are pressed.

Any ideas on what's going on?

How about a master reset feature?

Anyone seen this issue?

teamh3:

Strange that I just experienced this same problem as I took my 089B out of a closet to hook it up after not using it since this past Spring. I'd also like to know if there is a reset option or other way to fix this issue. We're seeing the exact same problem.

I e-mailed support. I'll let you know if I hear anything. Please do the same?

Best luck.

Hi,
I have a HD089A attached via hdmi to EOS550D (for fullHD video), but the quality of the image is bad. Do you know why?

Thanks

I recently got my manhattan HD071A. John can you give me a link or tell me how to calibrate it pls.

1. can this monitor be upgraded with the firmware that will have false colour?
2. is focus assist aslo planned ?
3. And if it is ..how do we upgrade it? do we have to send it in (which would suck for me living in Jamaica) or can it be downloaded?

The menu and buttons is a real PITA....wish i had seen this new version before.

Ciao Giacomo, forse dico 'na cazzata e tu sai gia' ma forse e' normale quella scarsa qualita' dato il fatto ke non puoi avere il FullHD in rec mode!
