The Official Manhattan LCD HD Monitor Thread

I am curious . . . why didn't you get the batteries that are made for the DP1. They are (relatively speaking) inexpensive and are made for the monitor. Also, Redrock sells and israeli style articulating arm at a fair market price . . . B&H has a selection of Noga arms . . . Zacuto also has them.

Hi Chris,

How does the Lilliput stand up against the Manhattan for critcal focus? Does it work well with the 7D?

Yes, I'm getting the batteries from DP1 but I need the batteries in the back of the camera to counter balance. That's basically the only reason why.

As the question regarding "Redrock Micro's articulating arm" check out post #23 of this thread. As for the Zacuto brand, it's a bit out of my range. It's over $400.

Yeah, it says that, but there's no indication anywhere as to what that means exactly.

I did get a response from Manhattan saying that it did both, but no clarification about whether there's a menu setting or if the thing just senses the signal and acts accordingly.

Got this from Manhattanlcd after asking a 2nd time:

"We are in the digital age these days. The PAL or NTSC signal will go thru a ADC then to the processor."

"So it really doesn't matter if it PAL or NTSC it's digitized."

.

Chris, to answer your question, the NTSC / PAL is Auto Sensing.

Articulating arms for HD8900

Articulating arms for HD8900

Just got an HD8900 monitor . I'm looking for two things . I need an articulating arm to attach the monitor to the handle of my Panasonic HMC150 video camera(not on the hot-shoe mount) as well as being able to attach it to my Libec HS38 tripod. I also would like to find a miniball head with a 1/4-20 on each end . I could use that on the threaded hole on my HMC150 handle to attach the monitor. Any suggestions ?

Took The Plunge

Took The Plunge

After two agonizing days of looking at websites over and over, I decided to get the HD089B. All of the informed posts on this thread helped convince me that this was a good choice. I'll report back when I get it.

I ordered the HD071A yesterday, and it should arrive tomorrow. I did a huge amount of reading and research on this purchase - as well as debated in my own mind over and over what size is most practical for me. I decided this one is the best compromise between size and function for me.

I'll post a thorough review when I have a chance to play with it some.

Flipping image on HD071A

Flipping image on HD071A

Hi,

Just hoping someone can answer this - I've looked in the menus and manual but am not finding it - is there a way to flip the image so that the unit can be used upside down? Thanks in advance...

So here's my initial thoughts on the HD071A.

Build: Good, fairly solid construction. When you first turn the monitor on it flashes white, which always freaks me out but immediately afterward the logo comes up and everything seems okay.

Picture: Very nice. Not too small, which was something I was afraid of. This can be used for focus very well. Outdoors the picture is still good, although without the sun hood this unit would be worthless outdoors.

Cons: The biggest problem I have with this monitor is that there is no available hardware from Manhattan designed for mounting it. It does have mounting screwholes on the top and bottom, but this unit is fairly heavy when the sunhood is on - it makes it cumbersome as well. I've tried various hardware to attach it to both the camera or the tripod, with varying degrees of success. It definitely feels too heavy to mount to the hot shoe on the camera, so I had to come up with alternative positioning. I've managed to attach it to the tripod using some lighting clamps I had lying around. Manhattan could easily add another $100 or so to every order if they came up with a good mounting solution and added it to their lineup.

I haven't used this on a shoot yet, but am looking forward to it - I think it will be a great addition to my kit.

Is there a "hidden menu" or other way to calibrate the monitor to the camera's color bars? Is there a "reset" button? I have the HD089B.

Hello John,

I have a question about the beta firmware and one of the added features that intrigued me:

"Added more aspect ratios (2.35:1, 1.85:1, 15:9, 16:10, and fill to aspect)"

Would setting the monitor to the 2.35:1 aspect ratio assist you in framing specifically for this? Obviously, the footage would not be recorded with this ratio, but if I set the monitor to this setting, framed accordingly, then in post I crop the top and bottom of the footage to the 2.35:1 ratio, the framing would more or less match what was on the monitor? And second, this firmware would only be available on the 3 that you mentioned?

Thanks! -GEORGE

There is a hidden menu, however we prefer the customers to stay out of it.

The monitor is calibrated from the factory, if you need to tweak the picture use brightness, contrast, color, and tint controls.

Some simple instruction on how to calibrate would be helpful. I shouldn't have messed with it. I'm trying to get it to match my XH-A1s's color bars as closely as possible.

Hey John, as to my question above - is there any way to flip the image on the HD071A vertically (upside down)? It could come in handy, but I didn't see it on the settings. Maybe something you guys can do in the next software/firmware revision? Can't imagine it would be too tough to do technically. Thanks!

Mount the monitor upside down.
