it was shot with an Arriflex SR 3 Advanced (16mm), and then mastered on HD.

So many shows were filmed at 1.78:1. That's a strange number. I wonder why so many decided on that format?

Heroes was shot in 1.78 as well. It's not really uncommon.

Yes. Pretty common for HDTV.

1.78 was adopted because it's between the European film standard of 1.66 and the American film standard of 1.85.

(I thought for sure It was HVX)

I guess they don't use cameras like HVX's or DVX's for these shows, as opposed to a show like West Coast Choppers..

Yeah, and most of those shoot VariCam or at least 1/2" CineAlta. Some handheld type cameras, but mostly predominantly shoulder-mount 2/3".

I use to watch this show with my son, sort of got into it when we moved to Cali. The theme song is the ringtone for my son, sooo cool.
