A friend of mine started a small film festival last year and they are running again this year. It's open to anyone (entry fee is $200 CDN) and all the profits go to charity. The point is it's an excellent opportunity for local filmmakers to make a movie, get it reviewed by people who know movies (last year's judges were amongst others Larry Sugar and Stuart Aikins) and get it on the big screen.
If you want to participate or are just curious go to www.filmfestoflife.org
I believe the start date is July 6th and all scripts have to be in by the 16th or something. The screenings are in September or October.
