The new Doctor Who companion.

...I've never watched a single Dr. Who episode, what's the best place to start ?
( I understand that there have been many different actors playing Dr. Who, so is there any specific generation to start with ? )

I'd start with Christopher Eccleston, then move right into David Tenant.

Haters are always gonna hate. But if you haven't seen the episode "Blink," you're missing one of the best episodes of any television show in the last twenty years.

I'm not a hater, I'm not a fan of Steven Moffat, but I'm not a hater.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of some of what he does either. Many of the episodes I really like are written by guys like Neil Gaiman. But I do think the've done some great casting in the last several seasons.

I only ever watched the David Tennant ones (well I also saw the Eccleston ones, but wasn't a fan). Tennant is a delight, Highly recommended.

To be honest I haven't really gotten into the modern version of the show. I'm guessing the quality level has risen substantially? But half the fun of watching the older shows was the cheese due to low budgets for episodical TV shows.

EXTERMINATE ! ! !

I understand the cheese factor, but give the new show a try. It really is fun!

The BUDGET has, so there are improvements related to that.

I wouldn't say the writing has. A lot of good stuff in the new series, but a lot of lamentable stuff, too. These days, it's WAY too tied to present-day Earth and spends considerably too much time on the personal lives of the companions.

I have to agree with that last statement. For a guy who can go anywhere in the universe, at any point in time, he sure seems to spend an awful lot of time in modern-day London. And also not-too-distant past London.
